(Demo) Super Mario Bros: Odyssey

This is a demo of my current project. It is my own interpretation (or re-telling) of the original Super Mario Bros games, along with the two Super Mario Land games and even including elements from SMW, and Wario and Waluigi as playable characters, with entirely new levels and some extra powerups/features and other new things that weren't in the originals. I call it "Odyssey" because of how the game's story pieces together.

[b](NOTICE: All of the following issues have been fixed since the demo was released. I won't be re-releasing the demo however, sorry. Don't worry though. These issues aren't game-breaking)[/b]

Issues:
--When Peach carries enemies, they are aren't positioned very well; I'll be sure to fix this in the future.
--Sometimes, when stomping a jumping koopa, it will disappear and you will teleport 4 pixels to the right and about 6 pixels up without bouncing off of it. I'm currently unsure of the cause.
--Some music may sound a little strange when they loop (you may hear a slight pop or jumping in the audio when they hit the loop point). For some reason, Audacity keeps adding very small amounts of blankness at the beginning of each track after I exported them and it threw the loop points off a little. I'm currently unsure of how to get around this.
--I accidentally left an unfair enemy in the SMB2 demo; it's a Hoopster in the room before the boss fight; he's on a vine that you need to climb up. Sorry about that lol
--Subspace will have a slight graphical glitch if you get the mushroom while small. Don't worry, it's not a big issue.

Other stuff
--Once development goes a bit further, I will begin using .oggs to keep the size down.
--I am aware the levels in this demo are pretty straightforward and linear, but trust me when I say that later levels will be longer, bigger (more height than 240 pixels), and a little less linear. The difficulty will also increase, obviously.
--I included 3 cutscenes in this demo; the last one is very short, but the first two can be skipped by pressing enter.
--The mushroom and fireflower are the only powerups in this demo, but don't worry, in the full game, there will be plenty more-even in chapter one.

This is a pretty nice game! The only annoyance I found so far (I've only played demo 2 as of now) is that the controls are hard to get used to, especially for fans of SMB2 (like me). Seeing controls like in the official game would be nice. Anyhow, good work so far. I think I might write a review.

you don't really get enough vertical distance with Mario's walljump, but otherwise the engine is very solid.

"The engine is solid", you say? I find this suprising, considering the fact that you people usually beat the Hello Engine down to a pulp.

Aside from that bit of truth, this game is amazing. As you know, smbmaster, my brother, Goombill, downloaded this a while ago from the Fusion Fangaming forums, and we both LOVE this game. We also look forward to the next demo!

This game... this game is beautiful. Total support, man! You took Hello Engine and turned it into something... playable! Miyamoto-san would be proud.

-Bug report: In World 1-2 of the SMB demo, if you try to go down the top section of the pipe at the beginning of the level, your character will get stuck. The game doesn't freeze, the timer will continue to count down, but you will be unable to move and the game will not progress to the underground area.

It's a very nice game indeed, but on both games, when i choose mario, he does not look like how he should. it looks like smas smb3 mario. and if i choose anyone besides mario on any of the games, im still mario. like when i choose luigi, it's still mario. that is all i would like fixed. thank you for your time of reading this text.

Did you properly extract the files into one folder before playing? That is the only thing I can think of that could have been done wrong.

I plan to, once the game is a shade closer to completion. Right now, there may be more edits I plan to make (some of the sprites have even been edited or changed entirely since the demo was made) Stay tuned ;]
