On a side notes, when you browse for sprite submissions, the list will show you the submission kind for each of the sprite. Perhaps we might build a better main site software someday. Maybe around the time when the sun becomes a red giant.
I'd like to start this off by thanking everyone who entered our MFGG Fangame Jam, because without you guys, this wouldn't have been the awesome month that it's been. Thanks to all of our entrants, it genuinely feels like Nintendo fangaming this month has been the best it's been in quite some time. So much hard work, passion, and soul have been put into each of these games, and I couldn't be prouder.
All of the games can be found at https://itch.io/jam/mfgg-fangame-jam, but many of them are getting fixed up and uploaded to MFGG itself, so make sure to check back every once in a while if you want to experience these games at their best.
Speaking of which, I think it's important that we announce our final winners on the mainsite itself, so let's get to it!
In 1st place, we have The Legend of Zelda: Eternal Rain, created by a collective that I'm going to call the Saguaro Boys. They know who they are, and if you play the game, so will you. It was uploaded by zxspriter, but he was only one part of the awesome group that put this together. Between the art, dungeon design, and everything else, this game definitely deserves its spot at the top of our list.
In 2nd place we have Landborne, a really quirky and fun game put together by BigPotato. Featuring his signature expressive sprites, Landborne is absolutely hilarious for the animations alone, not to mention that on top of that it's a great little physics-based game with an endlessly amusing premise.
And in 3rd place we have Torpedo Ted, made by SuperMakerPlayer. A spiritual sequel to the old "Bullet Bill" series on Newgrounds, Torpedo Ted just totally rocks. If you like like high-speed, breakneck 360° action, definitely check this one out, as it's sure to get your heart pounding.
...Now, while those may be our winners, I'd like to thank everyone else who entered as well. Each and every game entered in the jam is a product of a week straight of hard work and amazing willpower, and I am extremely pleased by how this turned out. To all of you, thank you so much for showing everyone that the fangaming scene is very much alive and kicking, and for bringing MFGG one of its best months in years.
Now, to get a little more serious for a second, while this has been a very special month for MFGG, it hasn't been quite so great elsewhere for many people. I'm sure you've heard about the protests occurring across both the United States and internationally regarding police brutality, racial inequality, and systemic prejudice. MFGG is an extremely diverse and varied community, and our staff members absolutely support the Black Lives Matter movement in pursuit of ending the horrible atrocities that continue to befall the black community to this day. We will continue to do our very best as a community to prevent racism and racist rhetoric in our social channels, and we will offer our support wherever we can.
Well, if you've stuck with me this long, thanks for your time and patience. As your reward, enjoy this update:
Well. I am the type who's not that great on writing an announcement but the MFGG Fangame Jam has officially started! You got a week to submit your game before you die from thirst. That's right. The theme of the Fangame Jam is: Too Much Water
Hello everyone! Sorry that I haven't made an update in a while, I've been rather busy lately.
It's struck me that we're already in May. In just a month's time, I'll be wrapping up with university, having come to end of my last year. Those three years really went by quickly... and then it occurred to me that I've also been a member of the site staff for almost three years! Where does all the time go?! It stills feel quite recently that I was promoted.
Yet still, I look forward to what the future May hold for MFGG.
As some of y'all are aware, the comment "Like" system is broken to some user. For instance, a user reported they liked the same comment for over 100 times.
I've already attempted to fix the main site software but it is impossible to fix. Either my codes are not working to prevent duplicate likes or the whole site ended up broken with Error 500. So the bug may stuck there for a while unless someone who's more experienced can take a look at it.
If you are facing duplicate likes, please do this: - Clear your browser cache - "Unlike" the comment which will clear all of your likes - And then "Like" the comment you liked before
I hope you guys enjoyed our April Fools joke! If you guys were wondering why it lasted 2 days instead of 1, well, some people enjoyed it so much that we decided to extend it by a day.
But yeah there are a few things I want to talk about here.
First of all, we've made a minor change to the submission rules.
"2.4.1 - Please try to ensure that your game is at least making an attempt to be an entertaining and productive contribution to the website. Games with little gameplay, lack of effort, or games made intentionally bad for the purpose of a joke are not allowed. When a game is bad on purpose, it's usually not fun for anyone, and your attempts at comedy will most likely come off as obnoxious."
What does this mean? Well, from this point onwards, we won't accept poor quality games, even if they are meant to be joke games. If the main joke of your game is that "it's bad" then maybe you should come up with a less overdone joke anyways.
This does NOT include games that have bad art, music, or controls, but have more going on than just "this game is bad lol funny". This is only for those Waligie type of games.
As for the other thing, it came to my attention that some people have been having some difficulty submitting stuff to the main site lately.
I think I figured out why.
The thumbnail for all submissions has to be 100x100. Don't make it more, don't make it less. For some reason, the site software doesn't throw out an error for that.
It's something I'll be looking into in the near future, but for now, here's your warning.
Anyways, that's all, keep making fangames I guess. And if you're not making fangames, I dunno, start making one!
