Pros | + Cool setting + Cool music + Theoretically cool gameplay |
Cons | - Ruined by incredibly bad and stupid lives-saving system - The engine's slipperiness is really annoying |
Gameplay 4 / 10 |
The gameplay has its ups and downs. The "gunplay" feels pretty fun, while the engine is slippery and caused like 90% of my deaths. The lack of enemy variety is a bit of a bummer, but the ones that are there cover most bases well enough, I suppose. The level design is pretty bland for the most part, though I appreciate that there's exactly one spot that requires running. Didn't even realize that was a thing for most of the game. The boss fights aren't very good either. The "story" of the game is fun. I wish more games featured Subcon in some way. Essentially, the building blocks of a good game are here, buuuut... The part that darns the game to Heck: your amount of lives gets saved along with everything else. If you save with 0 lives left, good luck trying to get through the game without pulling your hair out. It's a disastrously dumb developmental decision. |
Graphics 6 / 10 |
They're not bad, per se, but they're a bit "all over the place". |
Sound 8 / 10 |
There's all kinds of cool tunes here, but there's also an overly loud and really bad rendition of the SMB2 underground theme. Truly a mixed bag. |

Army Goomba is the worst kind of bad game; a potentially good one. |
