SMB1 Prerelease Sprites (Recreated) By: emi
Don't know what this could be useful for, but I've made a spritesheet that pretty much has recreations of the development or pre-release sprites that were shown in very old footage. This is as accurate as I could get, which is fairly better to TCRF's should I say (discovered TCRF had mockups later on, it's not why I even made this in the first place). Yeah, enjoy I guess?

Format Sprite Sheets Sprites and animation frames saved in a static image medium.
Contents Edited Modification of existing sprites.

05/25/20  Added Fiery Mario's throwing animation and two sprites are now more accurate (thanks Sgt-Nate-V!) / Minor edit to the fifth pose
05/16/20  Added one more pixel of height to the thinking/crossed arms pose (thanks to SuperSledgeBro for pointing out)

I looked them up and it's apparently from The Lost Levels or something, according to TCRF

Ooh this is good! This is the first time I see a sheet of "prototype Mario sprite" replicas. I myself tried drawing two of these sprites before.

Now, just an observation, comparing that "thinking" Mario (fifth pose in your sheet) and the sketch it came from... Shouldn't the legs be longer?

You're right, I think I see it now. I'm gonna go ahead and see if I can submit an update to the spritesheet to get this fixed.

Where are the original images? I know the riding sprite and that's it.

They can be seen in a behind the scenes video recorded around the development of SMB/TLL and was used as footage for a Q&A around the release of Mario Maker

I think some of the actual sprites can be seen in the digital instruction manual in the Playchoice-10 version of SMB1

Thank you for pointing this out! I guess I'll add the fire throwing sprites too.
