Pros | + Decent gameplay + Funny writing + Delightfully campy |
Cons | - Could've used one more ending |
Gameplay 8 / 10 |
The engine is basic, but functional. You can run and you don't get stuck on things, so it's definitely leaps and bounds ahead of most games. The level design isn't particularly noteworthy either way, though the Secret Bonus Points are a nice extra touch (not sure if they actually do anything, though). The story is pretty funny, and the multiple endings offer a little bit of replay value, which is nice considering how the game is basically just one level. I do have to wonder why there wasn't an ending for completing the game without the metal cap, though. It also captures the intended feeling of the jam well, feeling truly like a game from the early days of MFGG. |
Graphics 7 / 10 |
Basic SMW and Mario Paint graphics with some slightly wonky palettes. They work well enough for the theme, but could've perhaps used a bit more wonkening. |
Sound 8 / 10 |
The MIDIs used are decent, as are the sound effects. |
