Gameplay
9 / 10
The gameplay of SMSH2 improves on its predecessor by a lot. There aren't actually all that many new moves or maneuvers or anything like that, but your ability to control Mario is so much better in this game.

Not only that, but the level designs are much less tight this time around... with a few annoying exceptions, though even they aren't as bad because this game doesn't use a lives system. Having a hub world and being able to go to earlier parts of a level also make the game feel like a cohesive world rather than just a bunch of screens glued together.

The story isn't as interesting as the first game's, but it's still nice to see Wario in a villainous role every now and then. It's also nice to be able to talk to characters around the world to get some insight on things. I especially appreciate the game dev info shared by the Boos.

One thing that ought to be mentioned, of course, is the grind. You need to purchase multiple items to proceed in the game, and the costs of these items are in the thousands. There are a few spots where you can grind money pretty quickly, but it does still take some time and might feel a bit unnecessary. I didn't personally mind it all that much, but I do wish the game told you what you're buying before you bought it, because then I could've avoided spending my thousands on useless trash.

Graphics
8 / 10
They're mostly pretty good. Some of the tiles and stuff could have perhaps used a bit more variation, but it's a perfectly fine-looking game.

Sound
8 / 10
This game's soundtrack was a whole lot more forgettable than the first one's. I do think it still had some SMRPG there, though, so whatever.

Final Words
9 / 10
SMSH2 is, in my humble opinion, one of the fan gaming "greats", and should at least be tried out by anyone seriously interested in them.
