No offense, but this looks like a Mario Kart flash ripoff from the preview. Haven't tried yet though. I'm on my phone.

Quote (SilverVortex on Jun 7 2017, 4:28 AM) No offense, but this looks like a Mario Kart flash ripoff from the preview. That's kinda how it plays, TBH. I like the idea of a 2D Mario Kart, but this needs a lot of polish, and possibly an engine rebuild. There's no momentum, no speed up/boost feature, you just hold "right" on the arrow keys throughout the whole track and jump at certain points and hope you win (and chances are, you won't). It's not even visually interesting, either; every track is made up entirely of tiles from Super Mario Bros. and the menus are just white backgrounds with basic option buttons, banners, and images. |

I'm gonna give it to you straight, doc. Mario Kart fan games have REALLY high standards on MFGG. Even the best ones are merely mediocre. You gotta be willing to put a lot of work into even a demo of a Mario Kart game, and I already have a feeling this game won't be worth the play. And yet, as a Fan Game Connosseuir, I must. |

This is hardly worth a release, demo or otherwise. If the engine is "still under heavy development," and the tracks are all "just placeholders," then why did you upload this at all? Your demo is going to be indicative of your final product. When we think of your game, all we'll see is this clunky, uninteresting not-game. Do some real work, THEN give us a demo when it's actually ready to be shown. As a side tip, some slopes or other types of obstacles besides the blocks themselves would be super helpful. The way the tracks are built now just slows you down unnecessarily. |

I like it. It's a new take on the Mario Kart formula that I've never seen before (other than the Mario Kart costume in Super Mario Maker). Pros: Unique, the gravity shift is great, the 4 "-ario" brothers are the best quartet to have. Suggestions / thoughts: The banana is pretty much useless on the final lap, if possible, it would be great if those just didn't show up on the last lap. More items would be good - especially ones that can hurt from a distance. As mentioned, the banana peel really only works for setting traps on for the next lap. Also, the shell is very hard to aim as there are few long straightaways. Something like the lightning bolt, or a bob-omb, or a new item maybe based on the fireflower would be nice. Also bullet bills. :D Another thing to think about is adding shortcuts. As it is there isn't much in the way of strategy or player choice. Having secret shortcuts would add to the complexity. Speaking of a lack of choice - there doesn't seem to be a time when you wouldn't want to go full speed. I mean there are no curves, no timed obstacles, or any benefit to ever slowing down. Maybe make it more of a Super Mario Run style endless runner where the characters are always moving right. Either that or give us a reason to want to slow down every once and a while. I don't know what that would be - so I can't make a suggestion there. Hence the endless runner idea. On the second to the last level on the Mushroom circuit, it seems like there is a death trap where if you jump at the wrong time, you get stuck. I avoided it every time, so I don't know if you actually can get stuck there, but it looks like a possibility. It's where the gravity is reversed, and there is a "Drop" (upward on the screen) - but on the other side of the drop is a ledge that goes to a dead end. I would suggest making that reverse pit bigger, so no one accidentally gets across, or closing the other side so no one could get over there at all. One final thought - the coins - they don't seem to do anything, and a good deal of the time, I didn't pick them up even when driving through them (IE they didn't disappear). I don't know if there's something going on that I didn't understand (maybe they are "phasing" into existence and just look like they are solid when they aren't yet), or if there was something else going on. But the coins don't seem to add to my speed, and they don't always seem to work, even as collectibles. There's no counter for the coins, so I don't really see the point, other than adding coins because mario always has coins. Maybe just adding a counter would help - providing feedback to the player helps add to the experience, IMHO. Overall, great start. I look forward to what you do with it. Thanks for sharing your work! |

So why the hell does this have a 9/10 if it has no reviews? Weird glitch, MFGG. |
