Pros | +Graphics +Better randomization +Fast-paced in some areas +Multiple difficulties +Gameplay sessions felt just right +Most of the music is fine... |
Cons | ...but once again the Game Over music is pretty unfitting -Floaty physics -Not too much to come back for (except high scores) |
Gameplay 7 / 10 |
Nightmare's Revenge plays simple enough. You move up, down, left and right collecting coins while saving Lumas under a time limit while avoiding Antasma's various henchmen. Each playthrough is different, as there are various rooms that you can get depending on the difficulty. They do add some variety while still making sure the game gives you a new challenge. In some rooms, you might be headed down a boost pad hallway. Others, you might collect purple coins to free the Lumas on the other side of a purple barrier. In all of them, however, just touch all the Lumas to wake them up and head through the pipe to go to the next room. Controlling Green Luma is a little tricky at first. He's fast and takes a while to accelerate/decelerate. This doesn't take too long to get used to. Colliding with the walls, however, is a different story. Sometimes you'll bounce back a way if you run into a wall, but other times Green Luma will try to hug the wall for as long as possible. This was something that I couldn't really get used to, even after the first 3 playthroughs. I did a single playthrough for each of the difficulty modes. Easy is, honestly, pretty boring; you only encounter spikes for enemies and the rooms are very small. However, this did help me get a feel for the controls. Medium and hard just add more enemies and make the levels larger. I enjoyed playing hard the most for its giant size, and it felt like there was a lot to do in that mode, even for 5 minutes. When you start a game, you're given 300 seconds to collect as many coins as you can. After that, Green Luma falls asleep and it's game over. I felt like the time limit was pretty much spot on for this game. It didn't feel too long or too short (Well, maybe a little long after playing easy mode more than once). I'd say that Nightmare's Revenge holds up pretty well for its gameplay. All I can really poke at are the physics and simplicity of easy mode (but I do understand it's supposed to be easy to get used to the game). |
Graphics 9 / 10 |
The graphics are all vibrant and look nice. I don't really have any issues with the graphics. |
Sound 7 / 10 |
The sounds are all pretty well selected, so there's nothing to complain about there. The music was also pretty good and fitting for the most part. I do know this was made in a time span, but ugghh change that Game Over track pleeeeaaaase |
Replay 6 / 10 |
This part's a bit tricky, and you'll have to play the game yourself in order to see if it's something you want to come back for. I'd come back for it to try and tackle hard mode a few times and beat my scores, but I don't wanna touch easy or even normal mode for a while. |

Fast paced. Replayable. Easy to master. Luckily, I won't have nightmares about this game for any time soon, but it may need a bit more looking at. |

Thanks for the review! Yeah, the Game Over music isn't good, but I have uploaded an update which has the music tracks that are made by edeN. Just needs to be accepted.
