General Commentary and Game Overview
So, Somari 2. This type of game requires an interesting approach. I must say, I'm impressed. Some guy actually went out there and created a sequel to an unofficial hack-port of Sonic the Hedgehog for the NES. Speaking of, I noticed something that I don't think many other took note of. Because Somari was a port of the original Sonic 2, you'd think that Somari 2 would be a port of Sonic 2, right? Wrong. This game has a whole new level design. Perhaps the creator didn't know of Somari's origins? The gameplay stays the same though. Somari runs, jumps, and spins just like Sonic. And seeing how Sonic is my favorite video game franchise ever, I should find this flawless. Well, I don't, and that's because of two words: ice physics. Unfortunately, I don't have Mr. Freeze to break the ice with some cool puns, because this drove me insane! It wouldn't even be a problem if Jack-of-All Games had made him just that little bit stiffer, but once you let go of that right key, you better start slamming on that left key, because if you don't, you better pray that there isn't a pit right beyond the screen.I would compare it to Mega Man's style of runthrough. If you don't make it through a spot the first time through, you better memorize that spot. This ice physics keeps me from liking this game any more. Well, besides the level design, which doesn't help and only hinders, and the art which looks like it was drawn in paint. This kind of art doesn't make a bad game though. Just one that distracts me. Except in this game it actually makes the game harder. Because the game's sprites are so wobbly, there can be small slopes next to some pits. This may not seem like much, but if you land on one of these slopes, down into that pit you go! Now, difficulty in a game isn't necessarily a bad thing. But neither Sonic nor Mario are known for their difficulty. Why does this game have to be? This game could have been fun, and it definitely can be. But the physics, the level design, and the art that somehow makes the game harder are just too much for me. If you're a fan of Sonic or Mario, and want a bit of a challenge, that's fine by me. Give this game a try. Who knows, maybe you're see some value in it that I didn't. But for now, I'll stick to the original Sonic.

Pros Fast-paced gameplay, leaning towards fans of both franchises, easy to understand

Cons Very difficult for beginners or people just wanting to play, level design that conflicts with fast paced gameplay, ice physics, art/sprites/tiles/whatever that somehow make the game harder

Impressions
Gameplay
5 / 10
Somewhat enjoyable at best, rage inducing at worst.

Graphics
4 / 10
Poorly made. Somewhat (not much though) cute, but graphics should not conflict with game design

Sound
6 / 10
Music is good, but judging by the rest of the game they most likely got it from somewhere else.

Replay
3 / 10
Not very encouraging for replayability. Once you've played it once, you've played it every time.

Final Words
4 / 10
Play this if you are good at Sonic games. If you aren't, try it anyway just in case. But If you haven't played Sonic, may Arceus have mercy on your soul.

Fair enough. I probably should have positioned the camera view even further to Somari's direction to see enemies/obstacles ahead easier.
But no, I do know about Somari's origins. I just wanted to do it differently.

I don't think I've seen a review with both a wall of text overview and short impressions before. If you're going to write a lot, it would help people reading your review if you would break the section down into shorter paragraphs. There was a lot of talk in your general commentary about ice physics, which probably would have fit better in the Gameplay section.

That sounds like you want to port something from Sonic CD. Well, that is, if you are talking about the running.
