General Commentary and Game Overview
Somari 2 is an unofficial sequel to a unofficial game Somari for the NES. Somari is basically a remake of Sonic 1 on the NES, and Sonic is replaced with a Mario look-alike named Somari. So if Somari was a Sonic 1 remake on the NES, is Somari 2 a remake of Sonic 2 on the PC with a different character? No...of course not! Well, I played it and beat the game, so I'm reviewing it.

Pros +The engine
+Music
+Runs smoothly
+At least you don't have to worry about multiple gems needed to get a super form or to get a good ending
+You basically have infinite lives

Cons -The engine
-I accuse Somari of being Tailuigi (Really slippery)
-Speaking of Tailuigi, there's no partner that helps Somari
-You can die if you touch the ending flag and run into a pit
-Graphics look simplistic and primitive
-Hit detection
-How did Mario get the abilities of Sonic? As far as I know, you are actually playing as Mario, but how did Mario get Sonic's abilities?

Gameplay

Well, you open the game and a title screen comes up, and there are two options: Start Game and Load Game. Apparently there's a saving system. You click start and you start playing.

Boy, the graphics...but I'm not talking about graphics 'till the Graphics section.

So the engine is pretty smooth! I like how Somari's momentum is handled, so is Somari's rolling. However, the worst thing about the engine is that Somari is super slippery. Like the surface is invisible ice. He's quite difficult to control in the air due to his bad traction, and it takes a while to stop if you are running full speed.

Oh, and did you even think this game would have any relation with Sonic 2? No... No chemical plant, no metropolis, no nothing from Sonic 2 or anything related. Somari doesn't even have a partner, which is kind of a bummer.

Also, there are lives. If you get a game over, it asks if you want to continue. Select Yes, because it will send you to your last checkpoint (If you caught one of course), so you basically have infinite lives, which is nice.

Hit detection for enemies is either you kill them, or you get hit. I don't even feel that rolling into them works. They usually walk left and right, and occasionally, one would try to shoot Somari. Not all enemies are robots, either.

Robotnik A.K.A. Eggman isn't here either, instead some other guy is taking his place.

Not very good.

Graphics

Wow. Um...well, lets just say that Ryan just used MS Paint and drew the levels. Oh, same goes for enemies too. Also, the graphics look very sloppy and look like no effort was put into them. Somari looks like a edit of the normal sprite, and the HUD number font looks like it was ripped from Sonic Advance. Speaking of HUD, it looks kinda simplistic.

Bad.

Sound
6 / 10
I wouldn't say the music is catchy, cuz it's forgettable. I'll just say its good.
It's 8-bit music, and in my ears the instruments sound Mega Man styled.

Sound effects are pretty generic, but they sound okay. Generic Sonic jump sound, generic Sonic enemy kill noise, you get it.

Okay.

Well...no. It's short, and I felt saving wasn't necessary.

Final Words
4 / 10
Well, it's an unofficial fan sequel, and has no relation to Sonic 2, which is odd. We could AT LEAST have a partner.
