General Commentary and Game Overview
Mario Adventure (Or Mario Universe) is a 3D game by Xylvan which is allegedly based off of SMB2 USA. I say allegedly because...it's not too much SMB2. At least in my eyes.

Pros +Most Graphics
+Insane running speed may give some a good laugh
+3D
+Toggleable "F4 effect" (I dunno what the effect is called, but it puts white glowing dots everywhere)

Cons -Graphical quirks (Like the veggie being on Mario/Luigi's nose)
-The Toad and Shy Guy model look deformed
-Music and Sounds are toggled with F3, and by default sound is off (WTH?!)
-Bad sound quality
-Bad controls
-Attack button is Alt, of all keys
-Peach and Toad isn't playable
-Mario and Luigi doesn't have any abilities
-Confusing to progress in
-How to do the mushroom sidequest with that Toad???
-Has to be installed

Gameplay

So you start at a title screen that reads "Mario Adventures". You press something, and you are taken to a black screen that has a red M and a green L. M = Mario and L = Luigi. Do they have differing abilities? No. They play the exact same. Luigi doesn't have worse traction or jumps higher than Mario.

Then you actually get into the 1st...I mean 0st level, ZigZag Hills. Personally, I don't want to go over all of the worlds. There are multiple worlds, but the game is too confusing to complete. By the way, you don't go in zig zags in this level. YOU CHEATED ME!

ZigZag Hills is a huge, empty island, with some Shy Guys and Toads. Man, this place is huge! How am I ever going to get around this place? *holds shift and moves* Oh wait, Mario/Luigi can roll around at the speed of sound!...How can I be sure that Sonic isn't dressing up as Mario/Luigi? I dunno. Well, at least it kinda helps with the size of the levels.

The levels are usually empty, uninteresting plains. You collect coins and cherries, and pick up veggies and throw them at Shy Guys. There are 4 environments, generic grassworld, generic desertworld, generic snowworld, and a generic beach world. Most levels (As far as I know) have very little amounts of Toads, and lots of Shy Guys. Speaking of Shy Guys, what is the combat system?

Press Alt while near a shy guy and the shy guy will try to dizzy Mario/Luigi Mr. I style, but fails and disintegrates itself instead. COMBAT.

Now, the camera. The game's camera is bad. If you try to move in the opposite direction the camera is facing, the camera doesn't center behind Mario/Luigi. The only way to change the direction of the camera is using the left or right arrow keys. You can also adjust it with the mouse cursor.

Now for game controls. Well, basic arrow key movements, space to jump, and turning is sort of sluggish. As I said before, Shift will let you roll around at the speed of sound.

Not very good.

Graphics
6 / 10
The graphics are...pretty good, not gonna lie. It's 3D, the cherries and coins look hi-poly, and Mario and Luigi looks OK, environments are detailed, but it wouldn't hurt if there was more stuff on the maps. Lighting effects look pretty good, too. Looks like some effort was put into these. Shy Guys and Toads look deformed, though. Animations are quite stiff, too. The "choose your character" screen looks like it was done in less than 10 seconds.

Good.

Sound
5 / 10
Oh? The game is silent. *presses random F# keys* *presses F3* *walks over dirt terrain* Oh? There are sounds now. *music starts* Now there's music.

Yeah, you have to enable the sounds since the game is quiet by default.

Music is a MIDI of Bob-Omb Battlefield, Mario/Luigi uses Mario's somersault sound from SM64, which sounds like it has been recorded from a cell phone. Yes, Luigi uses Mario's voices. Shy Guys have Shy Guy like noise, but I gotta admit, it sounds kinda funny. (Like the weird funny)

Okay.

The game is extremely confusing and boring, I don't think you will play this again after playing it once.

Final Words
3 / 10
It has nice looking graphics, but it's very confusing and boring, and the environments are empty and plain. Anyway, graphics don't make a game.
