General Commentary and Game Overview
Super Mario Sunshine 2D is a demake of a game I've never played before, which is Super Mario Sunshine.

Not knowing a whole lot of the plot of the original plot, I don't know what else to say. Let's review, I guess?

Pros +Custom graphics
+Lots of jumping combos
+Nice music
+Voices don't seem to get annoying

Cons -Controls
-FLUDD is a little buggy

Gameplay

Alright, I'll start with Mario himself. First of all, I wanted to mention that I like that you've took your time to give him some jumping combos. Really, he's got a triple jump, back flip, and many more! I have never seen a fangame that has jumping combos, so congrats Aivenstruz! I haven't really had a problem with Mario himself (even though, turning while walking feels a little strange to me), so nice job!

Now let's move on to FLUDD. FLUDD is a machine that is used by Mario, which can spray water to clean up mud and defeat those red creatures. Oh, but that's not all. You can switch FLUDD's spray nozzle to the hover nozzle, which can be now used like a jetpack, allowing Mario to reach some areas that he wouldn't normally be able to. While the nozzles are nice, the machine a problem. The problem is that sometimes FLUDD will vanish. Sometimes, this problem might force you to restart the game (really, it vanished on me at one time at the main hub). Aivenstruz, I think you should try to find those FLUDD thieves, by doing a little code next time.

After completing the first four levels, the main hub (along with the first course) will have a Yoshi Egg in the beginning. Once the egg is cracked, Yoshi will be revealed, and you can ride on it afterwards. Yoshi can flutter jump, vomit juice, and use his tongue. It's a little odd that Yoshi will disappear if he goes into the water though (though, it makes sense for Yoshi in the SMW cartoon to hate water).

A problem in the game, which is probably the worst in the game, is the controls. Okay, having WASD as the arrows key is fine, but I don't think using the space bar for jumping goes well with WASD. You can use Q for switching nozzles, but I don't really have a problem with it. The biggest problem with the controls is the mouse. You have to use the mouse to use FLUDD's nozzles and Yoshi's juice vomiting (along with his tongue). Really, using both the keyboard and the mouse at the same time feels odd and it can be really hard to get used to (heck, I haven't got used to it yet).

Now let's take a look at the courses. There are about two courses in this demo, and they both have five shine sprites. Two of them can be collected by defeating a boss, two of them can be found at somewhere in the sky, two of them can be found in a secret area, and four of them can be collected by collecting eight red coins. Once you have collected all of the shine sprites, you'll get a giant watermelon in the main hub.

That's all I can think about for the gameplay, so let's take a look at the graphics, shall we?

Graphics
9 / 10
Unlike most fangames, Aivenstruz actually took the time to create every single of the graphics, and they look very nice! Though, sometimes FLUDD will point away from cursor, which is a little weird. Also, it's odd that after collecting all eight red coins, Mario will be rotating in the air while the shine sprite is heading off to it's set position.

Besides those two graphic bugs, I haven't had any problems with the graphics.

Sound
10 / 10
If I am not mistaken, the music is 100% custom. Though, if they are custom or not, the music sounds really nice! I haven't met any problems with the music yet!

The sounds are just as good as the music! There are voices, but they don't sound really annoying, as most actions will have more than one voice clip, and they'll be picked at random.

Replay
6 / 10
There are about ten shine sprites, and they can be very hard to find (especially since if you haven't played the original Super Mario Sunshine yet), so it can take you a while to get them all. Though, once you have collected all of the shine sprites, there really isn't a point of playing the game again, especially since it's a demo.

Final Words
8 / 10
Super Mario Sunshine 2D does quite a great job at demaking Super Mario Sunshine, and I recommend you to play this game.

Thanks for the review! And.. heh, the music is 100% not custom, its from the original game.

The only other games I know that used jumping combinations are kjellm87's work, but I think more people should start implementing that as it makes things more interesting.

Its super strange that FLUDD dissapears like that. Never have I stumbled upon that issue, but it most likely has something to do with the Game maker studio compiler. :/
