General Commentary and Game Overview
It's a shame when a good game goes bad due to one inexplicable gameplay decision.

Pros + Some neat ideas
+ The graphics are surprisingly good
+ The music isn't bad either

Cons - Completely ruins itself by being extremely slow
- Plenty of other gameplay problems too

Gameplay
3 / 10
SMW:MKM is quite possibly the most sluggish fan game I have ever played. The basic movement is extremely slow and the level design generally consists of long expanses of nothing. Heck, even running at max speed feels sluggish. The game uses the default Clickteam platform movement, so you get stuck on everything, and no invincibility frames after getting hit means that you'll lose god-knows-how-much HP from getting hit "once".

There's a magic system in the game, which is neat, but it's... kind of useless. The default controls are Shift and Ctrl, but the fireball spell is bound to Z, which is definitely A Choice.

The story, or what little there is of it, sounds potentially interesting, but the game isn't finished, so...

Finally, the scarcity of passwords means that when I got a game over, I would have had to play through several slow, boring levels in order to get back to where I was, so I just gave up.

Basically, SMW:MKM is a game that does a lot of things right for a ~2003 game, but ruins itself mostly by being one of the slowest games in existence.

Graphics
8 / 10
The filtered graphics are surprisingly good. I don't think there was a single thing that looked _bad_, even if some things looked better than others. This game is also one of the very few fan games with "effects" (i.e. Podoboo sparks and Magikoopa spell trails), which is very impressive for a ~2003 game.

Sound
8 / 10
It has the usual generic SMB/SMW midis, but it also has a lot of variety which is, once again, impressive for a game from this era. The sound effects are mostly alright, though some of them are a bit unfitting and "random".

Final Words
4 / 10
Pretty neat from a "fan game history" perspective, but way too sluggish to actually be a fun game.
