Super Mario Bros. Dimensions 2 (2019 Demo)
preview
By: LangtonLion64
The game's not dead! It's been way too long since the last demo, so I thought I'd rectify this terrible mistake.

Super Mario Bros. Dimensions 2 is the upcoming sequel to Super Mario Bros. Dimensions. Taking place after the end of the first game, the Mushroom Kingdom is intruded upon by the dangerous EVL Army, who steal the powerful ring that Bowser had used in the last game. Mario, Luigi and Polter are joined by an ex-EVL soldier named Eden to take back Princess Peach and the ring!

There will be many levels with different missions to complete by finding Energy Drops. The game also aims at making Polter more involved, with him now being able to consume special fruits to give him powers to help Mario out. Power-ups such as Laser and Jetpack return, while the new Thorn power-up joins them, with other new power-ups still to come.

Thank you for being patient!

I played this for like 30 minutes and I can already see a ton of improvements from the last demo! This is such a good game!

It's nice to see that you're still working on this! Since I haven't played the demo yet (I'd rather wait for the full version) and am rather curious, how far are you in the project?

Also, am I the only one who thought that yellow creature in the screenshot was a Poison Slug (from Commander Keen 4)?

It terms of levels, there's still quite a lot left to go. But after doing a lot of graphical improvements, porting over to GM Studio and adding some important features, the game's internal workings are basically done, so when I'm working on it I can just focus on designing levels or boss battles. I've been planning every little thing about the game over the last few years, and I'm content with how I'm going to implement every part when the time arrives. But because I'm now in my last and most important year of university, I'll be surprised if I can finish it by the end of 2020.

If you're having issues with the shader used in Dissonant Dunes, it can be disabled by turning on Low-Resources Mode in the Options Menu, under Video & Controls. I'm not sure why this is happening, as my computer never had trouble with it.

I use a Dell Inspiron 17. Also I've read that one way of stopping the error from happening is to update DirectX.

Actually, you need to update the runtime of DirectX.

A few things that need to be worked on in time for the next demo or full release:

>Finicky wall jumping

>Glitching into walls/trees

>Dash sensitivity (Which sometimes leads to the above issue) (If this can be fixed in Settings, please let me know)

>Checkpoint rings not reappearing if you choose to restart the entire mission (which leads to entire loss of coins should you die after reaching where the ring is/was)

Other than those things, it's a real solid game! Can't wait for the full release! (Eden fan for life, been using her the whole time I've played!)

Incredibly good, aside from a few issues:
1: Mario clips into the walls in the vertical part of the orange forest stage.
2: I couldn't find the "cage drop" and the "cheese cave", no matter how hard I looked.
3: 10k points is a bit extreme for the points challenge.

It's not just there, I've had that happen even in the 1st main stage after the tutorial... I'd dash and then end up inside a place I shouldn't be, wall jumping inside the wall.

Wall collision when characters are running at high speeds is something that I've had some difficulty with. The clipping issues don't always happen consistently which makes it harder to test for. It's got to do with characters going fast enough that they bypass the check for the wall collision, and instead the floor collision occurs instead, which results in the player getting shot up to the top of the solid surface. Once I get a complete fix working I'll let everyone know.

This game is great! Even better than the first! A few comments though-the polter animation is a bit too long, and if you're a noob like me, it's impossible to get past the first Luigi segment! Also, the running mechanic is too slow, and you stop running if you switch dimensions. Otherwise this game would sell millions if nintendo made it.

Easy fix for the Polter one... Simply turn off the animation in the options! :)

You need 12 Energy Drops to unlock that level. The wormhole to enter the level is down the gap between Luminous Lagoon and the pipe on the right of it.

2: I couldn't find the "cage drop" and the "cheese cave", no matter how hard I looked.

To be honest, that wasn't very clear to the player.
For the "Caged Drop" Mission, go back to the part of the stage where you go North, but instead of picking up the Berry, switch dimensions and you'll be at the "Caged Drop" area.
For the "Cheese Cave" Mission, continue along the path to the left up until you see a hole in the tree surrounded by 8 coins. Press Up, and you'll be at the entrance to the cave.

-----

By the way, this is an amazing experience so far, LangtonLion64. I've noticed a few glitches during my playthrough:
- I know you're well aware, but I've found another instance where I glitched through a wall while using Polter during one of the drill segments. (Edit: An interesting side effect of the glitch can warp you to the last level you've played if you've died in the hub world. For example, I've recently completed the third level 100%, and after dying in the hub I was brought back to the third level, except that it was labeled as Level 0-1. (https://postimg.cc/0rQG7GkH/8c6d51e6))
- Eden can clip through the floor sometimes while grabbing an Energy Drop. (https://postimg.cc/K4MpwyPG)
- Game crashes when dying to the 3 Mousers as Eden (I've not tested with Luigi, however).
- When I started to play the game, Mario couldn't move no matter how many times I've pressed left or right, yet he's able to recognize my input. I was forced to use a USB Controller. I've never had that issue on my old laptop, which was odd. I haven't restarted my computer yet, so it could just be that.

Otherwise, this is very impressive for a demo. Keep it up!

I need help with P-Switch to Progress. Mainly finding the right area.

Go through the pipe which leads to the cliffside. There, at the place where the Star Coin is located in, there is a slope. Go through the slope which is a fake wall that has a P-Switch. Trigger it and the red blocks appear at the end. Then, jump on them as you end up in front of another slope, which is also a fake wall that has the Energy Drop. Hope I helped!
