General Commentary and Game Overview
I remember the day I heard Maryo was found dead in Miami. It was a cold winter morning in 2006. The news talked about it all day. Lurygi got the inheritance, and used it to buy the Taj Mahal, turning it into a cheese shop for some reason.

What I'm trying to say is that these games are kind of mediocre.

Pros + Decent engine
+ Alright story
+ X-Treme is pretty good

Cons - Boring levels
- Bugs that force you to restart the entire game
- Mediocre graphics

Impressions
Gameplay
4 / 10
The engine is original (or maybe just the default Clickteam movement with a proper hitbox?), and while it's better than El Default Clickteam Movemento, it's oddly slippery, and sometimes "stores speed" whenever you hit a wall, causing you to careen off of a cliff after you jump.

The levels are mostly boring, unoriginal slogs, with little else going on than randomly strewn objects floating in the air. A lot of the levels also have platforms that are hard to see due to being semi-transparent. And for the god, if you don't know how to program them, STOP MAKING THINGS ROTATE. That one "trippy" level caused like 95% of my deaths in all of Maryo and Mr. Pence combined.

The second game also had a Fun bug where I died and Lurygi didn't respawn, so I had to reset the whole bloody thing (and it happened two times in two different levels, too).

The story's kind of so-so, but at least it agrees that All Cops Are... Bad.

The X-Treme demo is a bit better, but the moving platforms are hard to jump off of and the cutscenes are a bit long.

Graphics
7 / 10
The custom graphics are generally pretty good and fun, but the pre-existing graphics are mostly pretty horrible, poorly used and/or badly stretched.

X-Treme's graphics are mostly good, though.

Sound
6 / 10
The soundtracks aren't as good as most other Ralorche games, the sound effects are fine as usual, and there's still plenty of random pop culture to go around.

Final Words
5 / 10
Maryo's not all that cool, actually.

What surprised me the most about this review was that Cool Maryo X-treme was "good". I played it a few weeks ago while I was trying to record videos of my scrapped games and it was one of the most painful experiences I've gone through in any video game I've ever played. Also, I'm pretty sure the terrible rotating platforms were done on purpose, I don't remember why, these are remakes of games I made 5 years ago. The semi-transparent platforms were also completely invisible in the original versions.

Maybe I was slightly over-positive, but I think it's at least decent (though it's probably mainly the graphics that make me think that).

I probably also put stuff like that in my old games, so I guess I can't complain much.
