Marioy 2
preview
By: VinnyVideo [E] [W]
Boom-Boom has decided to terrorize the Mushroom Kingdom by playing "YMCA" at high volume all day long, and only Mario can save the day! This is one of my earliest fangaming efforts, but the game's 32 levels and 80+ enemies provide plenty of variety and fun. There's even a Second Quest!

Update - July 2, 2021: Version 1.5 adds four new "DLC" levels accessible from the Level Select screen.
Completion: Full Game Genre: Platform
Franchise: Mario

Did you use an engine for this? If you did, please tell me where to find it.

Level 7-3 has the tune of "YMCA"

Yes, "YMCA" is the music in World 7-3, and it's a major part of the storyline (which is fairly dumb). Press F1 to see the controls and story.

This game is based on the SMB1 Engine, but I've added MANY enemies and such. E-mail VHamilton002@gmail.com if you'd like the original .GMK file or if you have any specific questions for me.

Is the gmk file of your game on the SMB1 Engine?

I downloaded the original Hello SMB1 Engine and modified it extensively to produce this game. I can also post the Marioy 2 .GMK file on MFGG or the board if you like.

You can get it at the message board at http://mfgg.taloncrossing.com/...howtopic=224237.

Even if you don't like the engine, you might find it useful for the backgrounds, sprites, enemies, and custom tile sheets.

By the way, there isn't exactly a Marioy 1; that was just a few little maps of Mario-style levels I drew back in 1996 - way before MFGG existed (I talk about this a little more in-depth in my Darunia-Saria 2008 manual). I guess great minds think alike!

This game is fairly decent. Except it's annoying that the enemies run too quick.

I can't fathom why people use this crappy engine, but this is probably the best game out of this engine ever made.

I'll use a different engine for my next game, Aventura de Luigi. The Hello Mario 1 Engine is OK but limited, and I had to make a lot of changes to it.

This is a pretty good demo of Marioy 2. The final version may have 32 levels instead of 28, and I'll work on correcting some of the glitches. I don't know when it'll be released, though.

It's OK to use the original .GMK file I posted to make your own game. Do whatever you want to it. It would be appreciated, however, if you give credit to VinnyVideo in the attached help files.

It's been over 2 years and no update, and a game that gets an 8/10 DESERVES one.

No, I haven't forgotten! I'm still planning on adding four new levels, a new boss or two, and fixing some of the bugs in the engine. It's just that I keep procrastinating and working on other projects, like Revenge of the Walrus.
