General Commentary and Game Overview
In case you didn't know (which is likely) DiamondDynamite also worked on another game called "Back to the lost Kingdom."

... Needless to say I reviewed it. If you're interested in what I had to say about it, look it up.

One thing I must commend about this game is a complete lack of Hello Engine.

The rest, however, is... well... let's say I'd rather play a Hello Engine game.

The new staffers must've missed this one! Must still be getting used to it.

Pros + Really, there is nothing here redeeming.
+ Except maybe what NOT to do in a fangame.
+ Even then, y'know.

Cons - Oh God, where do I start with this?
- The engine is buggy and horrible.
- The physics are whacked.
- No invincibility after being hit.
- I'm really tired of recolored SMB sprites.
- I got stuck one time... on a block.
- The window loves to change size.
- This is a problem even a novice can solve.
- It's extremely easy and boring.
- The level design is disgusting.
- I've run out of original demeaning adjectives and I'm still not done bemoaning it.
- The programmer has a very clear lack of skill.
- They try to hook you in with "You'll miss out on the fun"
- Batman mumbled too much in The Dark Knight.
- How did this slip through the cracks?
- Seriously!

Gameplay
1 / 10
Really, I do not like to go through and write reviews that bemoan a game and make it seem like it was spawned from the Gates of Hell, but really, if the designer had ever bothered to debug the game this might never have happened.

So, what's the dealio? Well, the game is named after Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, known as SMB2 in Japan. Well, that's kind of where the similarities end.

This game may look okay (which it doesn't) but once you start playing...

First thing you'll notice is the actual enclosed instruction book. Thing is, instead of using the mouse wheel to scroll, you use the mouse. Ever click the wheel while browsing a web page? In fact, do it now. Experiment a bit. This is how you navigate the instruction manual. Annoying, isn't it? Not very intuitive, is it?

So, you get into the game and already, the window size and the graphics size is schizophrenic as it tries to figure out the correct ratio of length to height and fails, so it falls upon itself to change with each level. This is a novice mistake that can easily be avoided through copy-paste rather than random numbers.

The level design is very boring, and I'll leave it at that.

The engine is so broken it's not funny. There are SEVERAL graphical glitches and collision glitches and physics glitches that make this game an incoherent mess.

I got stuck, hovering over a Bill Blaster, for quite a good while. STUCK. NO PEOPLE.

Fireballs tend to bounce like they use the Game Maker Bounce Function, in that if they come from high up, they will go high up. So this makes using fireballs as much a game of chance as the rest of this game.

Really, I'm not sure what happened between DD and Debugging, but they better work things out, because they need each other for this one.

I ripped on his previous game for using the Hello Engine. Now, I've gotta hand it to him for trying to make his own engine, but could you at least make sure it works?

Gameplay gets a one, shame on you.

Graphics
2 / 10
Okay while recolored SMB graphics were refreshing for a while they are now getting OLD. Quite old. In fact, I think a lot of them were from Back to the lost Kingdom. Which means they are old themselves.

Not to mention the various graphical glitches... walking on air... standing while jumping... moonwalking forward...

Graphics get a two. Work harder next time.

Sound
1 / 10
Overused midis, the midi for the castle hurts my ears, what is going on today, folks?

Sound gets a... wait... guess it. That's right! A one.

Replay
1 / 10
You know, I think of this section as a sum-up of the previous ones.

Poor engine, level design, graphics, sound, and amazing glitches.

Replay gets a... oh you know the drill already. Why bother?

Final Words
1 / 10
Rather than miss out on the fun by NOT playing the game, if you play this game, you'll miss out on the fun of another game that might actually be coherent. Avoid this one, folks!

I have recently learned this was submitted in 2007, before Back to the lost Kingdom.

Sorry for any confusion.
