Gameplay
7 / 10
The overall gameplay is very good. The platform movement has very little glitches, other than being able to turn continuously in place, and the battle system is done very well. It feels just like a paper Mario battle system, however it lacks randomized battles, which causes them to become very repetitive, making the player want to steer clear from any enemy interaction at a certain point, which is bad since that is a major part of the game.
The storyline is also a huge disappointment. The paper Mario games, with the exception of Sticker Star, all have unique, interesting storylines. Even the first, which has the typical Bowser kidnaps Peach, is made interesting because of the star rod and spirits. This games storyline, however, is even more uninteresting that Sticker Star's storyline. Peach goes on vacation, and bad things happen in the Mushroom Kingdom. Not very original.
The characters are also pretty plain, with the exception of a few. They all dress like average toads, and none are really all that memorable.

Graphics
5 / 10
This would be the games downside. The graphics tend to clash in many places. The Mario sprite clashes with the grass tiles, and the stage background, which is in the M&L style, doesn't really fit at all. But not all the graphics are bad. Most of the enemies look nice, and the effects are all really neat.

Sound
8 / 10
The sound is fine. Nothing to scream about, but nothing to complain about. None are really repetitive, but none are super catchy.

Replay
6 / 10
The bosses and enemies are certainly worth fighting again every one in a while. However, the lack of storyline, characters, and randomized battles don't help the replay at all. But you might find yourself replaying this when you are bored. Who knows?

Final Words
7 / 10
Overall, Paper Mario: Great Star Offensive is a very well done RPG, but the lack of storyline, memorable characters, and randomized battles can make this game bland and frustrating.
