It's here already? You must have already been working on this. It's cool.

Just like with the Mario ones, the SMB2 and SMB3 sprites look really great, though something about the SMB1 and SMW sprites look a little off to me. But overall good job!

Just as with the Mario sheet, you really shouldn't have a background on these sprites either. Removing the background just makes everything much easier.

Because it's so hard to spend a minute of your time removing the background in Paint. Your complaints are so completely irrational.

Um...learn how to tell the difference. No one has acted off the rockers other than yourself.

Think again. This entire argument about whether or not a sprite sheet should have backgrounds or not is one of the most ridiculous arguments ever. Just stop now; if he wants to add backgrounds, he'll add backgrounds. Get over it.

Once again, I am not saying that he should or shouldn't add in backgrounds, no need to get all pissy at me, considering that I have tried defending your statements. And my response here in this submission was primarily commenting at AwesomeZack's misinformed post, whom he was categorically lumping every piece of criticism against his recent submissions as something irrational.

Don't worry about it; he already wussied out and caved to your stupid commands. What's the difference between a blank white background and a blank colored background exactly?

It wasn't that he used blank colored backgrounds; it was that, for each style, he made a background using tiles. The SMB1 style, for example, got a background made of SMB1 tiles and set pieces. Each style got its own background, and it was an interesting way to not only organize the sprites, but also to see what the sprites would look like against their respective backgrounds. Unfortunately, because this site is full of whiny brats, people kept attacking him for it, as if they were entitled to push Zack around, telling him how to make a sprite sheet, completely revoking his freedom to be creative.

i said i was gonna leave it be but jesus christ i hope you don't consider yourself a spriter after having said that.

first of all, enough with the insults. nobody's insulting you, so you shouldn't insult others. if you're the adult, act like it. second, you and everyone else need to understand that making sprite sheets is not drawing. you're not making a work of art. you're making assets. assets people can use within works of art! games, animations, etc. which is why it's very important that you make your sheets easy to extract from. it's not a matter of "wah wah this sprite sheet is too pretty!!!!!", it's a matter of "this sheet has so much extra wasted space in it that it takes x amount of extra time to extract the sprites from the sheet, therefore hindering usability."

it's sheeting 101. why do you think so many people've made programs that exist only to make sheets easier to use by removing any available wasted space? in these sheets, they weren't there to see what the sprites looked like on their respective backgrounds. that's not an excuse. all that extra junk is literally no different from writing "blank space!!!" all over the sheet.

i am so absolutely sick of everyone being so defensive about constructive criticism. i really should be blaming myself for expecting something out of the main site's community, but oh well. constructive criticism can be applied to everything, including your ability to sheet your sprites. nobody on the other sheet was "attacking" zack, in fact, you and zack were attacking the people providing criticism. nobody was revoking his "freedom to be creative", you were revoking freedom of speech.

*Insert Mit's comment here*

First off, I have no idea who you're talking to, as you didn't quote or refer to anyone.
Second of all, I just want this whole argument to stop. I already changed the sprite sheet, so It's just how people like you would want it to be.
Third, I get how backgrounds might make the sheet less usable, because I've already gotten so much comments referring to that. You can't just point out mistakes that many other people have commented about. And another thing, you can't keep mentioning a sheet's flaw when it's no longer there.
Just pretend that this whole argument never happened, and start criticizing the actual sprites so I can try to improve the part people actually use.

EDIT: Never mind, Zack made a good comment (hopefully one that puts this argument to an end) while I was busy writing the one that was here before.

i was referring to somari in my comment, i didn't quote him because it would've made my already big comment even bigger.

i understand how getting comments over and over can be annoying, but responding to them with snark and passive aggression isn't the way to go. addressing the complaints is a better way of going about it, since even if you end up not doing it to these sheets, at least you'll have the chance of doing it in future ones. even now the sheets can still be improved. the optimal sheeting layout looks something like this (just a snippet of a sheet but you should get the idea) so that way you don't have to worry about users getting your animations wrong. it also makes it even easier to extract the sprites because they're already "framed", per se.

also i think i talked about the sprites themselves on the mario page, most of that applies to here too.

Hey AwesomeZack! I used this and your Mario sheet and gave the SMB1 Sprites modern color! They use the NES palette (the Nestopia's YUV consumer palette to be exact) but don't follow the 3-color rule, so they're not exactly NES styled, but who cares? Anyway, here they are!

And yes, I did add Small Fire Mario and Luigi.
EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention that I made the Sprites a bit shorter, mainly so Luigi could fit inside 16x32 pixel tiles.
