...Seriously? The first 3 out of 4 levels are all edits of the same level! (And that level is included in the engine itself!)

Not only that, but the only original one - the 4th - is pretty much nothing but a giant line of enemies, a huge pit or so, and an invisible floor, and it also lacks a boss even though it's a castle.

And this with a pre-made engine? How many minutes did it take to make this...?

It is really easy to tell that the levels are edits. They have the exact same features in some places, like the up-and-down stairs with the hole in between near the end, and the arrangement of blocks and pipes after that (appeared in all 3 non-castle levels in the game), the block setup right near the beginning (appeared in all 3 levels), and that arrangement of 4 blocks near the middle that in the original game came shortly after the Starman block.

If I felt like it, I could compare screenshots of the levels side by side to prove my claims. But again, most players paying attention to the level design will notice this quickly anyway.

some of level 1-1 is an edit but not 1-2 1-3 1-4

Your denial is only digging you in deeper.

(By the way, I know that 1-4 isn't an edit. I never said it was.)

Plus I'm not even the only one who says the first 3 are edits. See Torkirby's review of the game.

i like this game a lot, dispite some of the glitches. after all, it IS your 1st submission & i think you deserve at least SOME credit & not criticisms. this is a good fangame & i recomend everyone play @ least once. i hope it's done soon!

Edit: hey i'm just wondering, where can you find Hello's smb1 engine? i know it must be glitchy, but i'll try most things @ least once

Nope, you're wrong about the "criticisms".

When someone is inexperienced at making fangames, criticism is extremely important - even vital - in order for them to improve. If one just uncritically praises a fangame whether it deserves it in its own right or not, why would the fangame's creator bother to try very much to get better?

I can't believe how you expect us to believe that the first three levels are not edits, all you did was move/delete a few things and make it underground.

Plus this game is short, bland and unoriginal.

The first three levels are edits. Do not argue and lie and say they are original because they are not so just quit it.

This game is too short, and not original. Also, you can't improve at Game maker if all you do is arrange levels using a premade engine thats glitchy. (No offense Hello.)

Holy crap, every level is the same design except for the castle level which is poorly made. Looks like you need a review from me to shapen up your gaming attitude.

Though the first 3 are just tile edits, the idea of an 8-bit desert stage was priceless. That and the fact that the castle is impossible are my only problems with this game along with a glitch or two.

Wow what a horrible game. Like the levels are the same, you copied that level the engine had and just editted it each time. There's so many area repeats it's not funny.

Found bugs and things needed:
1.Mario needs to be able to crouch.
2.If a mushroom is stuck between 2 blocks it will float down and float slowly until its out of the way
3.The castle needs less lava,Goombas and smaller fire blocks
4.If I hit for example a goomba in the desert it wall look like a regular goomba

So this needs editing

Hey i know it's been along time since you posted this but all you do is create another object and put the music you want and loop it

NO.
You actually put in the creation code of the room this:
sound_loop(yoursound);
Put that because if you don't, you'd have to make a object for every leve to change the music assuming every level has a different song.

Probably because he wants to express his opinion on this?

Sure it's not constructive critisisumm, but hey, at least it's something.

Like I said on PJ's sprites, but I think Ridge Koopa said it before me:

The commenting system is for expressing your opinion. What are we supposed to say? "Oh well it's awesome!"but truly think it's not great?

So don't EVER say that again.

Metriodmetriod, why did you quote crazymario64's comment for no reason?

DON'T EVER use that as an exuse. Just read what Grant said.

If you don't want to, READ THIS.

Even if you are better now, you should at least fix the glitches that the engine had before. Plus, this is just another sprite swap of the Hello Engine SMB1(At least I think, because I haven't played this game in a long time.)

First of all, the engine is really slippery, and glitchy overall. If a mushroom gets stuck between two solids it floats down, most glitches from the Hello Engine SMB1 persists. And also, you'd become more experienced if you coded your own engine, since you can't learn that way. Please, if you're gonna keep using engines, please stop using the Hello Engigne SMB1. It's very glitchy. Use something like Darkyoshi's Mario engine.
Also, stop dening that the levels aren't edits. They are very similar. The only exepction is the castle level, which is very not well made.

So that's my take on it.
