Honestly, it feels rather like standard fare. Maybe I just need to play it a bit more or something?

THe physics are off, the controls are buggy, forced fullscreen made it bug out and crash when I tried to exit it, not only that it made my laptop lag, and it only normally lags when it's running large 3D games, so I think you get the picture. I had to go to windows task manager and force the process to close(not the program itself, bueaces it turned while and refused to respond or exit when I tried to close it down normally.) You need to fix that.

You need to fix that. Are you using Windows 8? If you are using Windows 8, it crashes sometimes in Windows 8 and there isn't any way to fix it. (I am using sound_ps function.) And I made it in 1 week so it has some bugs and it's causing some lag. But I'm gonna fix some bugs and lag problem.
