Hi! Your somewhat long wait is finally rewarding.

I was previously working on this with UME, but had too much trouble with the constant lag and decided to can the project. Later I got motivation to try again, but this time I made the engine from scratch. As long I can tell, this is coming along very nicely (much better than with UME).

Enough talking. Try the Demo.

WARNING: You need really (and I mean REALLY) good computer to run NSM3 at proper speed or else you experience lag (and especially in some of the larger levels).

Improvements from UME:

* Slower movement for Mario, which is easier to handle. The physics are also much better (especially on the ice).
* Not two, but four kinds of slopes and you can also butt slide on them.
* You can still run up walls, but you can also run upside down at the celling as well.
* You can now just gently put portable objects down. In UME you ALWAYS kicked them.
* Koopas pop out of their shells, instead of retreating into them.
* Reservebox is back and you can hold three items in it at once!

ANNOUNCEMENT:
DO NOT CONSTANTLY WHINE HOW THE GRAPHICS ARE OVERUSED, BECAUSE I KNOW THAT AND THEY ARE TEMPORARY. IF YOU DO NOT LIKE THEM, WHY DON'T YOU JUST MAKE NEW ONES FOR ME?

This is pretty good. I see you have a registred version of GM now :-)

Altough there are a few remarks:

1) Increase friction
2) When I fall into a gap, I don't die
3) I fell trough the water somewhere in level 1 after the checkpoint

I'm quite amazed about the hills, the sliding,... it's fantastic.

Great demo but I don't really like the Fire Mario sprite.

It's basically the same sprite as Big Mario sprite (I only changed the color). I just didn't feel like inserting crapload of sprites to the game and recolor them all.

Yeah. But I don't execpted I need computer better than 1,6 GHz and 512 MB of RAM. Lag? Man, It's slowdown! But what I see, it's superb game! :)

For some reason, it crashes when you get past the goal post. I suspect it being because of MP3s, since your video on YouTube had a recorded level end sound.

If there's some MP3s in the game (my computer's such a jerk when it comes to playing them in GM games), I would recommend switching them to MIDIs, because I can't play it otherwise.

Very smooth moves, and nice engine. I doubt you created the midi for the switch palace, but whoever designed this (those drums were awesome). Good choice you made.

YES! This game's GREAT! I liked this game a lot, but took me a while because of slowdown...but not even slowdown could make this game bad.

Mario's Movement felt too loose to me. This is probably a good thing because I'm one of those people who never let go of the run key. =/

Both. Most power-ups from the prequel will return along with some brand new power-ups, which I'm not going to reveal just yet.

You should add an inventory menu (not hud because you already have that of course), and mabye add a SMW syled king boo as one of the bosses, and another thing, there is not 25% midis for the sound here probabbly, either that or it just is slow, I'm pretty sure you can use midis just fine, and you need to replace the other music with midis, I think... and make a toad town with shops and other stuff because in RPGs there what players go to, their should be a toad town in platformers too shoudn't there be? I don't see anything wrong with you adding toad town, and there could be a few mini-games right? Neither would be needed but players would like to do something something else to do after they beat the game or something wouldn't they?

Edit : Do Something About The Lag, It's less than 5 Megabytes yet still has much more lag then some of the other games that are around 9 megabytes! Normal? NO!

Edit 2 : Add luigi, mabye as a unlockable player, some special moves (I Mean, Platformer after platformer all mario's moves are Jump, run, walk, duck/crouch, mabye a few times there is wall kick and double/triple jump but mostly the only moves are from power-ups) and something to collect (red coins, power stars etc.) Then it would probabbly be the best mario game WITHOUT a health meter, basiclly.

All the music is in Midi format and those alone take a whole megabyte. There's already a Toad Town like place called Mushroom Market where you can spend your blue coins on power-ups or extra lives. In the full game, the blue coins will have many other uses.

Well you should try making each level as large as the Mushroom market like the mushroom markey is right now, and there is way to much space in the mushroom market, which I think you will fill when the game is done, and I said "King Boo". And add a yoshi suit, which shouldn't be hard to find in the sprites section by searching for the sheets that have the most downloads. Add some more stuff for the mushroom market! And Add secret levels that you can buy secret power-ups and talk to people you give you Items for free (once) and talk to people you tell you where other secret levels are, and add secret playable charchters add yoshi so you jump on him and ride him. And add secret worlds, and add mario's house with a inventory there so you can switch the items in the reserve box with other items, and add a few mushrooms that act like super mushrooms but do other tihngs too, like a choclate shroom that makes you jump higher and run faster because there's more sugar in mario's body and add life shrooms so when mario gets hit in his normal form he just faints and then life shroom falls on him reviving him. And add a honey shroom letting him do a double jump for a short time.

Edit : I said marky, the last letter in marky is Y and is right next to T, i didn't mean to wright markey down, it's a typo.

Great demo really, the only truoble I find with the engine though, is that Mario slides a little too much. Just bump the friction up a little bit.

Make the levels about the same size as mushroom market and if you think it would be to easy with small levels just make the level design a little trickier to handle (I mean add more or tougher enemies, more puzzle like levels) and for some other levels that need to be easier add like a little shop inside level.

I just got it to work, damn why is there only world 1. Update every time you finish a world, that way people won't have to wait until the final on comes out to play more.

(and on the world 1 boss, fix the fireball glitch, you throw one at him and he just disappears and nothing happens and you just wait until it times out, which takes ages as the timer goes in normal seconds instead of quick ones)

This game is pretty cool, it gave me than feeling about the old days at mfgg when everyone used snes gameplay and graphic.

The only thing i complaim about is the control, exept the control is this game awesome. I don't count the graphic since it only are temporarily.

Ultramario, on world 1-3, the cave level, when I go down the pipe, and when I came back out, the background was grey!

When I go and use a fireball in the cave level and I get hit by an enemy at teh same time I get stuck in the fireball shooting pose. O_o
