"BANDIT STOLE MY HAT AGAIN!!!11!!!"

I think that fits pretty well for a SM64 or Super Mario Sunshine game, because in both games Mario can actually lose his hat!

Most of these are well done and fit well with the style.

But SMB3 Small Mario's hair look a little to short in the back.

actually putting the SMB2 SMAS sprites on a black background actually hinders readability at first glance, for what it's worth. that's as deep as i care to dig.

Yeah but It's a slightly different black than what's on the sprites.

that's true but it's still extremely close. close enough to make it hard to read.

Just delete it in MS Paint, it's not that hard. Just set the transparency color to the same as the black background, then drag the spites over to a different background.

Watch it, Willsaber. We don't want another argument starting up. By the way, blank space is unintentional or intentional depending on how you are using it.

It is easy to do, but I do think that having a non-black background would make the sprites look better on your sheet, which would make people want to use them when they see them :)

Yes, because people will immediately hate the entirety of that section just because the background color is slightly similar to his hair. Great logic. T_T

Also, the background is black because it was black on the title screen of SMAS: SMB2, which is what the border is based off of.

that's not why, it's because it's hard to read the sprites. for all you know mario could have a black afro but you can't tell because the sheet's color is too similar.

all this stuff is just extremely basic sheeting 101 and i have no idea why making an appealing sheet is such a project. you understand that an effective, simple looking sheet is important, right? when the main focus is the sprites, why would you willingly detract the viewer's attention from the sprites themselves?

nobody said they would hate that section. nobody even implied that. everyone's giving you some friendly advice for making your sheets more usable and more appealing. it doesn't matter that the color was used in the game, this isn't a screenshot of the game, stop acting like it is. it's a sprite sheet, treat it like one.

what would you do if you were in a movie theater and some kid kept jumping in front of the projector making it harder to see parts of the film? because that situation is pretty similar to the one being presented here.

I'm just gonna say it's obvious that Mario doesn't have a black afro because of the brown in his hair. Plus, it's just one part of the sheet.

Alright, Mit, I've had enough of this. Stop making such a big deal out of everything. We've already come up with the solution that people who use this sheet can just recolor the background to white and the hair remains perfectly intact. All you ever do on Zack's sheets is find the tiniest thing to complain about, attempt to make the biggest deal out of it, and it doesn't get anyone (including you) anywhere in the long run. You are not giving constructive criticism, and stop acting like you are. You are nitpicking. If there's a tiny detail that bothers you, fix it yourself if you use the sheet. It shouldn't take you more than a few seconds.

Before you try to argue again, maybe you should actually take the time to think about what I'm telling you rather than repeatedly demand that you're always right (which is very annoying, by the way). I'm so sick and tired of having to tell you all this, so if I'm coming off as an a-hole, it's your own damn fault.

i don't want to argue. to be quote honest, this is really annoying.

i've never once made the implication that i was always right. i'm pretty sure at this point that if you think that then you're reading all of my posts with the wrong inflections. when i comment about things you think are minimal, it's because these sprites are boring. most of awesomezack's sprites are. they're edits, what do you want me to say? edits like this are boring. mario without his hat is absolutely nothing new and i've seen so many mario without his hat sheets at this point.

something that you don't understand is that every little bit counts. what you see as nitpicking isn't nitpicking. nitpicking is like, being incredibly aggressive about mario's hair being the wrong shade of brown. something actually unimportant. sheeting is vital in spriting because if you have an ugly as sin sheet, you have a pretty good chance of the sheet being used less. putting sprites on a black background is quite literally the most awful thing you can do on a sheet unless the sprites themselves are like, all bright colors so they contrast well. he puts a VERY close black on a SLIGHTLY darker black. it's EXTREMELY hard to read at first glance, and to be honest, when i first saw it on my phone, i couldn't see the difference in shade. so on certain monitors, it WILL appear as all the same color.

the sprites are already edits that've been done a million times. there probably are "mario without his hat" sprites here that are better than these. and to be quite honest, providing criticism about the sprites themselves at this point isn't worth it. he wormed out of it when i gave it in the yoshi sheet by saying that i should've given it to him on his SMB1 yoshi sheet that he put out years ago.

the thing about spriting is that you have to be willing to improve. again, every little bit counts, but when you're not even willing to accept the little bits, then you're not willing to improve.

Why is this argument still running? SMB2 SNES Mario's hair shading is much more grayish than the black background! If you look at the sheet close enough, Mario's hair shading is gray, not black. In fact most of the Nintendo's SNES gray sprite outlines were for playable characters or NCPs because of that. It was an upgrade from the NES so that people could tell what was a character\NCP or if it was just part of the background. Try playing the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES. in World 4-2 where buzzy beetles are introduced, the background is pitch black and the buzzy beetles eyes are black, nobody could tell if it was a glitch that made there eyes look black or if it was just part of the sprite. However, In SMB SNES even though the background wasn't black anymore, it was still more clear to understand what color the buzzy beetles eye color was. I hope this will make you all think of it this way.

in SMB1 on the NES, buzzy beetles have an underground palette where black isn't used, just like every other enemy. so no.

Okay, this really bugs me. What do you mean most of my sprites are boring? And that them being edits has something to do with that? Are edits now suddenly a bad thing? Especially when you make sheets of ALL THE KNOWN MARIO POWERUPS IN EVERY 2D MARIO GAME, BECAUSE NO ONE WANTS THAT, DO THEY? Do you just hate me? Because LITERALLY EVERYTHING you've said to me since you first showed up was criticism or insults. And if you think my sprites are boring, why don't you give me some actual advice to improve them, rather than complaining about the MOST INSIGNIFICANT little details!

i've never insulted you.

i gave you criticism because your sprites need work. however, with edits such as this, there's not much to say. mario without his hat is a very easy edit because you edit one or two heads per game and you can throw them onto all the other ones no problem. it's low effort.

the ones where you actually do the powerups and new enemies and whatever are different- it's just that when i did point something out, you didn't listen. ie your yoshi sheet. you insisted i should've done it three years ago, because otherwise, it doesn't count! makes sense.

usually, if they're fine, there's nothing for me to say. i rarely comment unless i really feel the need to point something out.

i gave you advice on the last sheet and you dodged around it. i'm not going to give you advice if i KNOW you're going to deliberately work your way around it because then i know ahead of time that i'm wasting my time.

do you want to improve? serious question. i'm genuinely curious. i don't think you've done a completely custom sheet yet and your skill level is clearly borderline ready to start on such a task, you just need to fine-tune what you're doing and you'll be ready to go.

oh yea, and it is depressing that i want to see things improve. it's depressing that every time i want to leave i have to get dragged back in because someone's gotta say something snarky. so, y'know.

When are you gonna stop being such a jerk to awesome zack for all the stuff he works on and you make a huge fuss about it over something so little.
If you don't like what he does quit being so judge mental about it. everybody has there own skills in there time and you can't seen to understand that.

if you actually like his work then why wouldn't you want him to improve? personally i'm mostly indifferent to his works but i would be much more interested if he ventured into custom sprites. i've gone on and on and on about what he can do to get better and i actually did it a few posts above and i'm sick of being a broken record. the main reason why i keep coming back is because people who aren't even involved try to act funny and drag it out further for whatever reason or other unrelated people actually bring it up again with valid reasoning and they get attacked

In case you don't know, I'm not the kind of person who makes completely custom sprites. I make edits of stuff that hasn't been done, or hasn't been done right. Mostly the reason I don't do custom sprites is because I haven't gotten the chance to do it yet. There's so much edits I can do, and also a good amount of my older sheets I have to add to. If you don't like what I do, just leave. Also, you haven't given me real ways to improve. One good example? Q: What could AwesomeZack improve on? A:Everything. Yeah, real helpful. Plus, all you've ever criticized about my work was the backgrounds of my sheets, and Yoshi's feet. And by the way, you don't have to come back. You've already stated that you don't like my work, so why bother with it? You can leave whenever you want.

This is hard to believe. This is literally shocking, not even kidding.
I remember when that disastrous nightmare happened on his other sheet which caused a tornado of unnecessary junk. I remember when you said that the 'adults' on here act like kids (or something like that) and the kids act like toddlers.' If maturity or whatever is to be present, why is this happening? Are you in an indefinite grudge and/or duel with AwesomeZack? Seriously, whatever happened here? I never remembered you this way, and this is basically a disgrace to MFGG. Why did this have to happen? If this keeps happening, something probably more serious than the people that pointed this out to be will happen.
You also said this website was an enigma because of a few comments that were thought to be stupid or whatever you want to call it. That's saying because of the people on this site, the entire site is an enigma.
Are we done?
I'm not trying to cause more trouble in case anybody rage quotes on this. I'm trying to clear this up along with the other MFGGers that have.
Please, nobody take this comment as a way to stir up more problems, and I'm sure everyone would be happier if this was finished.

Wait! I made a mistake! Buzzy Beetle's eye's were white anyway. But you should stop making this such a big deal. I agree with everyone else. It's really not that big a deal. I really think this has gone way too far. If it was that big a deal, MFGG would decline the submission and would have told AwesomeZack themselves. I never did say that I was going to stop. However, I'm not going to put out any sprite sheets for a while. The reason is that there's a problem with my computer, and it has to be repaired by expert repair guy people. I can still access this site with my "backup" computer, though. While I can't complete any sheets I was previously working on, due to them being stuck on my other computer, I can still accept new ideas for sheets, soooo...

The problem with the computer is that it won't turn on. I still don't know why, but it should be fixed eventually. However, I am currently open to suggestions, as I still need to post something. I don't want people thinking I've vanished again :/
