According to the group, because i'm very use to making SMM sprites, we've been making ways to help users SMM sprite while meeting the standards. Here are some tips/things to know for SMM sprite-ing as it could take effort and skill to make them perfect:
1. Using a useful sprite editor, known as the ''SMM free make, v5''.
2. Preparing the layout.
3. Watch out for the three color rule (certain styles, NES only), recolors and shading!
4. Gridset boxes, light blue = Main, grey = unused, dark green = beta, and etc, any other colors are used for alts.
5. Test your skills.
6. Straightening the labels, sprites in a perfect position.
7. If you want SMB3 to have four colors just make sure you know that sprites can have small tiles that build up into one sprite. Example: SMB3 green koopa = Head, eyes, outline, and feet (that's three colors right there, it includes black, orange-ish-brownish and light peach) + Shell, shell's outline and any white that's on the shell (that's three colors again! Includes black, white and green).
8. Unless if you want, there really are two other ways to make a sprite using four colors WITHOUT breaking the three color rule! First off making the fourth color separated and attach it when it's not in a/the sprite sheet. Second off, using the background as the fourth color, it's pretty much that trick they used in games like Donkey kong (1981), Mario bros and inside the castle in SMB1. So those are the three tricks we use for avoiding breaking the three color rule!
