General Commentary and Game Overview
Must Get Mushrooms is an exercise in futility. I don't say this because it's impossibly hard. I say it because it's boringly easy and it never ends. I strongly recommend against playing this game because it is a waste of your time--but if you insist, download the game and watch Mario and the Goombas' descent into madness and despair.

Pros + I'm having fun joking about it in this review.

Cons - You will be hard-pressed to find a game more repetitive than this one.

Gameplay
1 / 10
So our little Mario is trapped in a block maze with nothing better to do than collect mushrooms for an eternity. Every time he collects them all, all of them return to vex him once again. But do not fret, Mario, for the Goombas in the maze provide you with a sweet release from the relentless misery of life. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, bumping into Goombas in this game is nothing but suicide, as any remotely competent player will quickly realize that they always move in a straight line. Perhaps they, too, have realized the horrible reality of the eternal maze, and have given up all hope--existing only as empty shells, moving mindlessly forward until the end of time.

Mario must indeed be in a hurry if he refuses to stop when all of the arrow keys are released. But strangely, he sometimes finds it hard to get around corners and walls. The only explanation I have for this is that the maze has driven him completely insane. Perhaps if you play long enough, you'll start to see him write nonsensical ramblings on the walls with his own blood.

I recall a Pac-Man fan game I made once with random ghost movement. It was my first fan game ever. It sucked, but at least the ghosts didn't go in one direction all the time. Given the wide paths, I have to wonder if that would make the game better or worse...

So in summary, the gameplay is a total failure--and when gameplay is very good or very bad, the way I balance scores tends to get skewed.

Graphics
3 / 10
We've got nothing but SMB3 graphics in their overused glory (save the title logo and the most compelling sans serif font). The brick walls seem to have been recolored, but that's the only difference I noticed.

The cave background isn't tiled properly. It's also supposed to be a wall background instead of a floor background, but apparently Dollarluigi didn't get the memo on how to use backgrounds.

Sound
4 / 10
This game's soundtrack consists of the Yoshi's Island Title Theme and Double Dash Rainbow Road. While I like Double Dash Rainbow Road as much as the next guy, it has nothing to do with this game's soulless exercise in futility and Mario's fall into complete insanity.

There is a sound effect that plays each time Mario eats a mushroom. This is the only sound effect in the entire game. Make of that what you will.

Replay
1 / 10
Repetitive gameplay is the antithesis of replay value. This game is nothing but repetitive, so it has zero replay value. I'd give this a 0/10 if I could, honestly.

Final Words
1 / 10
Yet another failure of a fan game that can only belong in your Recycle Bin.
