Paper Mario By: E-Man
Finally! I got the new version of Mario sorted out! Admittedly, I miss using the original puppet I created back in 2015, but the proportions of this look a lot better.

So, it looks like all my new sheets follow the same order of the old releases. You'd think that Luigi is next, but considering how much progress is left on my Koopa sheets, I highly doubt that.

The new style is awesome, but I hope you can return to the old style at some point.

I wish I could, but that's not up to me to decide. If there's a good place to implement it, I'll get right on board!

If it was truly up to me, I would just stick to the old art direction throughout this project. Sadly, I was told that it was not effective for Paper Mario and I was forced into using a new art direction. Otherwise, people would accuse me brushing off critiques and label me as immature.

I still want to use the old art direction somewhere, but I haven't found a good place for it yet.

If it makes you feel any better, it wasn't just you who chased me off the old art direction. It was actually at least two or three people who pushed me over the edge, but they are mostly on another sprite web site.

Anyway, I appreciate your apology, but the worst of the problems you possibly caused are well behind me at this point. With the exception of a fully rigged Mario puppet and how I barely started on Luigi. I've already caught up with my old progress.

Nobody forced you to change to the new style. You took a suggestion, people liked the new direction you were going in, so you went with it. At this point, it seems like you're only twisting words. In fact, one could look at the thread themselves.

So quit playing the victim.

Tbh, I think the art style he is using now is a lot better than the old one.

This is really good, E-man.

At last, this fan game is on its way. That's nice. I'm very interested in seeing how Paper Luigi's structure is to be, even if a Koopa sprite sheet is to be worked on first. Great work, E-Man!

You know, you're not the only one who mentioned that I was "playing the victim," and I find it a very interesting coincidence that all the people who told me that gave off a very bad impression to me. I would elaborate more on what I mean by this, but I doubt this is the right place to explain that.

While I do miss the old art direction and the circumstances that caused me to change it weren't pretty, I'm fine with the current one I'm using. Not only is it quicker to produce parts, but it's also distinct and the proportions are faring much better. In spite of this, the old art direction has two solid advantages, which are cleaner outlines and intricate shading. Once I perfected it enough and found a more effective project for it, I would love to revisit the old art direction.

I really don't know why you see it as your duty to act like the parent/teacher around here, but how you're trying "not to sugarcoat everything" when you see your chance to dispense your advice is not actually helpful. You have done this multiple times already (not just to me) and I'm wondering why hardly anyone else is at least pointing out your attitude.

EDIT: I'll admit that saying that I was "forced" was not the best choice of words; however, understanding the full story of why I went with the new art direction can at least have you understand what I actually meant.

Don't be so hard on yourself. It's not like you intended this to happen.

I really like this! He looks so cute!

In regards to the style, from what I saw people were just pointing out that the old style was similar enough to the official sprites that it seemed almost a bit pointless to use them rather than the official ones. With this new style, the sprites look unique enough to be a completely different style and take on "paper mario."
Not to say you shouldnt continue the old style if it's what makes you happy (since you're doing these without pay, it should be fun to you). They just may not be as well received as these ones because most people agree that this style is favorable.

To be frank, the general problems I had about the initial critique that caused me to change were the tone and how I wasn't really told it sooner. Sure, I think I was dropped a few hints regarding the latter, but they weren't exactly clear. While I was calm at first, events that happened on another web site escalated the situation and I lost my temper as a result. In the aftermath, I had to review my current art direction and work out where I go from there. Otherwise, the damage would be a lot worse.

Even though I like the old art direction, it's pointless to revert at this point. Besides the fact that it has a better reception, I already made up most of the progress that I gave up. I won't be gaining anything, everything's just fine at the moment. Still, one project idea I have is to create sprites similar to the ones in the Donkey Kong Country series. The only catch is that I need to find a practical application for them.
