General Commentary and Game Overview
It's probably well known by most of you that MFGG tends to prefer content that brings new ideas to the table. There's a reason why "Hello clone" is considered a derogatory term, after all.

Well, Friendly Dictator took it upon himself to create a fangame with a concept definitely not seen very often. However, does being unique make it more fun in the end?

Pros -Solid engine
-Provides a decent challenge
-Graphics are decent
-Fitting music (and some of it original)
-Unique concept

Cons -Occasionally wonky level design
-The level tropes are sometimes more random than clever
-Slightly weird physics

Impressions
Gameplay
7 / 10
The base gameplay in Abducted Toad is somewhat simple. You can jump, do a slightly higher jump and perform a short-range attack in the form of the aura.

The aura is also used to light up areas, activate switches and many other things. It's basically your main asset in the end.

Toad is generally easy to control and he feels responsive. However, regarding the physics, something feels... off. Toad has this weirdly artificial feeling to the way he moves. I'm guessing it has a bit to do with him stopping instantly in the air, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

The level design is generally decent, but there are occasional bits of weirdness. There are a few instances where you're confronted with a wall of enemies and you're forced to backtrack to avoid them. I also feel the game forces you to rely on the higher jump a bit too often, but that might just be me.

The level tropes are usually distinct and original, but I might argue that some of them are more random than clever.

Graphics
6 / 10
The graphics are generally acceptable. The majority are a mixture of the usual Mario styles (SMB3, SMW) and a lot of edits. Also used are sprites and backgrounds from Kirby, Mega Man and other games.

The graphics aren't spectacular, but they usually get the job done. Might be a bit too much purple and blue, though. It's an alien planet, but it doesn't ALL have to be technicolor. ;)

Sound
8 / 10
As an interesting change of pace from most Mario fangames, Abducted Toad features original music composed specifically for the game. These original tracks are usually pretty fitting and catchy, but the main overworld theme might be a bit slow, imo.

Soundfonted MIDI files fill in the gaps in the soundtrack. The song choices are pretty good, too.

Replay
7 / 10
Across the game's many levels, there are a series of CD items to collect. These operate like the info discs in Mega Man Zero and ZX and give you information on characters and enemies.

In addition, beating the game unlocks a mode where you can replay levels with a limit of a single health point. Doing so awards you with a crown, but this is merely cosmetic and doesn't affect the gameplay.

Final Words
8 / 10
While it's indeed flawed and the quality of its ideas vary, Abducted Toad is a fun and interesting experience.
