General Commentary and Game Overview
Bullet Bill Attack is yet another one of those unimpressive "Dodge the X" games, much like Dodge the Shy Guys and the recently accepted Mario Tails. Instead of dodging Shy Guys or imitating Flappy Birds, this game has you dodging Bullet Bills and... well, nothing else. But hey, at least I haven't seen Mario Silva throwing a tantrum about poor reviews and babbling nonsense about target audiences and half-baked fast food metaphors.

Pros + Seems relatively bug free.

Cons - Gameplay is simple.
- Gameplay is also random.
- Difficulty curve seems to be exponential as the clock ticks down.
- Game provides zero information on how to play.

Gameplay
3 / 10
First, before we can actually play the game, we must know how to play. I looked at the incredibly terse description, in the zip bundle, and in the game itself for information on the controls, but there was nothing to be found. Eventually, I figured out through trial and error that the game is playable with the arrow keys. Left and right move, up jumps, and down crouches (a feature which is utterly useless). There's no control over how high you jump.

There are three rows in which Bullet Bills can fire. Each Bullet Bill randomly spawns to the far left in one of those three rows. Bullet bills fire in a consistent rate that speeds up as the timer ticks down. Your goal as Mario is to dodge them while the timer ticks down.

Aaaaand that's about it, actually. Well, bullets fire at a rate of about three per second around 50 ticks left, which makes the game nigh impossible to complete. The difficulty isn't properly balanced--it goes from "too easy" to "nightmarish" in a minute.

Besides this core idea of dodging things, there's not much else in the gameplay. There are no checkpoints as far as I can tell, so failing to dodge one forces you to start at the beginning. Pressing "R" to retry starts the wave over, while pressing "Q" to quit sends you back to the main menu, with no other option but to start the wave over. That makes perfect sense.

But hey--everything works like it's supposed to, I guesss.

Graphics
5 / 10
The custom graphics are fairly solid for such a simplistic game. They seem to be based on 8-bit Super Mario Bros. Unfortunately, there's only one level style, so the graphics department doesn't get much opportunity to show off.

Sound
4 / 10
The music is an arranged SMB theme, which is kind of nice. There are as many sound effects here as there needs to be, except that the Bullet Bills seem to be utterly silent.

Replay
1 / 10
You have a timer, which could have easily been converted into points--but there's no high score function. Not even the most basic replay value feature exists in this game.

Final Words
3 / 10
Looking for a quick minigame? There are plenty of them on MFGG that are better than this one.
