Luigi's Island
preview
By: skisbit [W]
This is the demo for an upcoming game, Luigi's Island!

The demo contains six levels, each with a new element and a unique touch, a theme that I would like to keep throughout the whole game.

Therefore I would be glad to hear comments on improvements and what could be considered as good additions to the game.
Completion: Demo Genre: Platform
Franchise: Mario

Calm down before you rage about the "Press Start" thing. Besides, the Enter key is pretty much a substitute for the Start button.

Jaden, Did you really rage about "Press Start"
Common sense should tell you that Enter is start :/

What is wrong with that...
like Syr said: START = Enter.

Luigi, the blocks and the checkpoints still clash with everything. I know you said it's to make them stand out, but I would definitely change them to Yoshi's Island sprites. They look extremely out of place.

Also, Luigi's acceleration and deceleration are both way too fast, and he falls kind of fast too.

Don't forget EvilYoshiMan, the "Pesky Plumber Luigi" sprite sheet may also work with the YI style.

Sorry about the rage at the "Press Start" on the title screen, guys. The reason why he made it like that so it will replicate Nintendo's title screen.

If you DO know why he intended to put Press Start then you shouldn't have written that comment at all.

You DO know that was a joke, right? It's like posting a troll game with the hopes of getting a 10/10 while knowing it's not even worth to play. Can people not take things seriously?

That's true.

skisbit, I recommend you search through NO Body's sprites, since many of his sprites do work with the Yoshi's Island style (specifically the Pesky Plumber sprites, and even some of his others). I already gave you a link to his Yoshi's Island Mario Bros. sprites (on the forums), but if you don't like those the Pesky Plumber sprites are done to make the characters look slightly less cartoony and more like the sprites your using here, while still fitting with the Yoshi's Island enemies and tilesets. They also have really nice animations, and the enemies and characters are all given a large amount of poses and attacks that you can use for your game.

I hope you do take this into consideration, as well as all the other criticism everyone has given you.

Also, a storyline would be nice :3

I kinda forgot this was up, the game has already been fixed with most of the issues you've all brought up - the sprites, the movement engine and such. It was more than a month ago when I queued this.

I also do not know why I've kept "Press Start" since I dropped support for a controller when I added the controls customization screen, probably gonna fix that.

Ouch, I hope that wasn't an exaggeration. In any case I did review it but I haven't been here in 4 years so the review may be a little off.

I honestly think you should change Luigi's jumping sound to the one from NSMB Wii.

I actually like the collision and gravity of Luigi.
It's just a quick run and jump, if you know what I mean. I remember in one of the demos for Luigi's Island, the Luigi sprites were from Mario Party Advance. I'm glad these have been changed to fit the style of Yoshi's Island. These Luigi sprites were used from NO body's Yoshi's Island Mario, Luigi Wario and Waluigi sprites, right? The Luigi sprites looked like they were from that sheet.
