General Commentary and Game Overview
The Miraculous Boss Battle I by awesomeface!

This fangame series is well known for being such a infamous game for using the default Game Maker platform engine!

...aaaand negative reception.

So lets go, I guess.

Pros +Umm...it's short?

Cons -Terrible graphics
-Bad engine
-The boss battle will confuse and frustrate most players
-FAKE BLOCKS!!! WHY!!!
-Boring
-That song in the first part of the game (I thought it was that bad)

Gameplay

So as for your typical "1st game" stuff, this game uses spacechase0's terrible platform engine. Why? The world may never know. In fact, a lot of Game Maker's default choices are pretty terrible overall.

Now you're at the title screen, and if Mario stands behind a pole...he spontaneously grows raccoon ears? Oh, and he can climb it, to. So to start the game, you press Space. Why Space? Why not Enter? ...I don't know.

Also, I'm pretty sure you guys know that this game is made with spacechase0's engine. What else? THE UP KEY JUMPS. THE UP KEY JUMPS. What in your mind, spacechase0, made you think that using the up key to jump is a good idea? The Z or X key could've been suitable.

Well, back on to gameplay.
So each part of the level is made of screens alternating. Just think of Super Mario Bros. Special. Of course, scrolling is already adapted into the game, so...why is it in? Well, this is a question that I can actually answer. They act as checkpoints, so when you "die", you return to where that specific point in the level where it activated that alternating screen.

Also, this thing I'm about to talk about is the most infamous part of the game; THE GOSH DANG FAKE BLOCKS. You know those fake blocks from Zelda II, as if Zelda II wasn't a pain in the butt enough? Well, they're here in this game, more abundant than ever! :D Sometimes these fake blocks appear through out your playthrough, and you pretty much have a 0% chance of winning the game without finding fake blocks. Well, unless you have a very good memory and remember where they are, of course.

Then...there is the boss battle!
...It sucks. So the boss battle is a inanimate floating rotating object that shoots smaller versions of itself. How do you kill "it"? Why, bonk your head into one of the smaller versions of the boss and Mario and the "boss" will disappear in default red smoke! Why? Why does Mario need to bonk his head into a spiky object and they disappear in red smoke? That doesn't even make sense even for Mario games! Anyway, it has no pattern either, so GOOD LUCK!

And anyway, you beat the boss, credits come up in a default textbox, and when you say "OK", THE GAME SHUTS OFF. IT JUST...SHUTS OFF. Wow, after all that, I get a textbox that completely shuts the program off when I press OK. Good.

Bad.

Graphics
2 / 10
2/10 for using a underused style of graphics even if I found SMB3 NES' graphics to be ugly.

Now the game as I mentioned before, uses SMB3 NES graphics! YAY!!!

What breaks the immersion that you feel like you're playing on a NES other then...everything?

Why, the graphical effects that come with Game Maker by default! :D

So the ones I'm talking about is THOSE effects. There's a star effect for collecting coins, and a red smoke effect for Mario and the boss disappearing near the end of the game! :D

Back to NES graphics, some details like Mario's jump pose is missing, but since spacechase0 has the talent to make a bad engine, why should he care about a jumping pose?

Bad.

Sound
2 / 10
Music wise, it has music by Kevvviiinnn, Capcom and Nintendo. Well, I guess that's some way to stay varied.

So I think the music in the first part of the game is Kevvviiinnn music (But I'm not sure), and it's really hard to listen to the song without taking my earplugs off. One beat on the left, another on the right. It's just really hard to listen to.

And I think the music in the boss battle is maybe Capcom music, but I'm not too sure. Compared to the Kevvviiinnn music, it's actually listenable...I know. And in contrast to the other songs, It's 8-bit.

Sounds = Nonexistant.

You certainly cared enough to write a lengthy review on why you didn't care. :)

You also might want to read those comments again. Mr. awesomeface stated this game was bad in 2013, so I would presume that he's long past his staff-are-my-personal-army phase. Continuing to associate that with him in the present is unfair.

I'm just gonna take that as a compliment, lol.

Hmm. I might as well just remove anything about the whole "awesomeface banning anyone who rates his games low" then.
