General Commentary and Game Overview
Remember all of those remakes? Okay, remember that they are just the same game, but with updated graphics and audio? Okay, remember that they use the same levels, with from few to no differences? Okay, remember that they have the content, but with at least a few more? Well, if you are looking at this game, you might think it's another one of those remakes. Is that correct? Well, the answer is NO. It may have the same story, but the levels are completely different, because it's a re-telling.

Pros +Retells a classic, instead of remaking it
+Amazing visuals
+Two playable characters
+Star Coins for replay value

Cons -A few levels could use a little more checkpoints

Gameplay
9 / 10
Is it a Mario platformer? Yep, that's correct. You can run, jump, collect coins, collect items, a lot of elements from the Mario platformers are here, as with most (or all) Mario platformer fangames. When you first saw this fangame, you might expect the levels to be copied from the original game. But you'll get the "WOW!" feeling when you get to the first level. Rather than copying the levels from the original game, the levels are 100% original. You can play as two playable characters, which are Mario and Luigi. They have their own special ability. Mario can wall jump, which can help save yourself from falling to a pitfall. Luigi can duck, and then perform a super high jump, which lets you be able to reach high areas.

There are checkpoints, just like the original game. But instead of being invisible, they are visible and are seen as flags. This is a nice thing, because you can now tell if you got through a checkpoint or not. However, a few levels could have used a little more checkpoints. Why? Because some levels can have you go very far, and you haven't yet got through a checkpoint. You'll be hoping that a checkpoint will show up soon, and you might have a chance to lose a life, which causes you to do the whole section all over again. This can lead to frustration, and you might lose a little bit of motivation. Whoever placed those checkpoints, should go to MFGG-Mart and buy some more checkpoint flags.

Whew, let's talk about something else now. I'll be talking about the powerups, shall we? As it's a SMB1 retelling, you might expect it to have only the Super Mushroom, Fire Flower, 1-up Mushroom, and Super Star. But you shouldn't think that retells aren't exactly remakes, because they have Ice Flower and Shell! Ice Flower lets you throw ice balls, which can freeze enemies into enesicles (which is the words, "enemy" and "popsicle" together)! You can shatter them while they are in ice, and every enemy shall fear the Ice Man! The Shell gives you a shell, which let's you go inside the shell. You can slide while you are inside, and take down enemies on the way, and then ta-da! You have invented Bowser Minion bowling! Well, that's all the power-ups (besides the ones from the original game) I can remember so far, so I'll like to advance into the graphics.

Graphics
10 / 10
Wow, just wow. The graphics are beautiful, they make me feel like I'm on a fun playground! The backgrounds have multiple layers, which makes them look so detailed. The graphics of Mario and Luigi are from SMB3, but they are edited, and they look better than ever. In fact, most of the graphics here from SMAS, but edited so they can look better and clash less.

There is so much detail here, it could make you stare at the graphics for a while. The butterflies and birds made this game feel more lively. When you start a level, you'll see a picture first, which could give you a little idea of what the level has.

The graphics are amazing and beautiful to look at, so you just as perfect score of 10 for graphics!

Sound
10 / 10
The music is nice. The grassland theme appears to be from SMB1, and got remixed and it even sounds more greater. The underground theme is from SM3DL, which is something we don't see (or maybe hear?) it very often. I think every track in this game are all fitting, and they are worth keeping inside your head.

Sounds are taken from several games. They sound good. Some are underused, and some of them seem to be overused SMAS sounds. The SMAS sounds don't bother me a lot though, so it's just a minor problem.

Replay
9 / 10
You'll be playing this game for like 100+ times. Almost ever level has three Star Coins, and collecting a certain amount of Star Coins will unlock a secret level for you. It'll take you a while to find them all, so have a fun time trying to unlock all five secret levels! You can also try to collect 10,000 coins, which unlocks a skin for you. I won't spoil a lot of it, so I'll only tell you that you might like it if games in the late 80s and early 90s are part of your childhood.

However, as some levels could use a few more checkpoints, you might lose a little bit of movitation if you died and almost to a checkpoint. If this happens to you, you'll probably sometimes have the "meh, I'll play something else" feeling. It's a not big problem, though.

Final Words
10 / 10
Super Mario Bros is one of the best classics ever, and this game is just as good as the original!
