General Commentary and Game Overview
Well then, another review, hmm? It's been like...at least about a month and a half since I reviewed a game. So today, I will be reviewing the obscure atrocity that is Super Mario Bros. 3: Super Quest.

Even though it's not as popular as other atrocious games such as Dodge the Shyguys or The Miraculous Boss Battle series...it still is one of the most effortlessly made games on here. I'm actually kind of surprised this didn't get a load of attention.

Pros +The engine is solid, I guess...

Cons -...but hypersonicX didn't make it
-Extremely short levels
-Unchanged map
-Levels aren't consistent at all with the tiles
-Cutoff
-No story
-Feels like a game made by a 4 year old
-Engine clone
-UNGODLY BORING
-Effortlessly made
-This exists at all...?

...What?

OK, first of all, you start with the title screen, which is unchanged except for the "Super Quest" text under the logo which is conveniently written in Comic Sans. Oh, and the bottom of the 3 is cut off, it looks like. It appears that you could also configure the controls, which is nice, but it's there by default.

Once you get on the world map, you'll see that the entire world map has been unchanged. Well, this pretty much raises a red flag that no effort was put into this game. So unsuspecting players that don't care about SMB3's roulette minigames or Toad houses will go in the level 1 panel and then...

"You have Comepleted the demo Super Mario Bros.3:Super Quest. Thank you for playing"

"What..?" The unsuspecting player may go. Turns out, the 2 levels are in the Toad house and roulette minigame. OK, now this is just weird. Unchanged map, badly located levels...what was hypersonicX thinking while he was making this game...?

Some of the first things you'll notice when you play is that djrellik's SMB3 engine is being used. It's a fairly solid engine, even though it's based off of my least favorite physics in a Mario game. I'm more accustomed to keyboard controls, see? That's why it's more comfortable for me to work with. Sadly, hypersonic doesn't actually do anything creative or at least add SOMETHING to his engine, so his game is a mere...engine clone.

Well, upon entering the first level that happens to be in the Toad house, you're going to experience the worst level design, worst level decoration, worst level length, worst tile placement, worst tile consistency, and to top it all off, no fun.

Level 1 is very short and could be beaten in seconds. Not only that, but the tile placement blows. Cutoff, inconsistent themes with tiles...the worst things that could ever happen with placing tiles in a level. The level is extremely boring as well. Also, at the end of the level, there is no tiles under the ground! What the heck hypersonicX. You possibly can't miss that much tiles to fill...oh god...

OK, now that we beaten level 1, lets see level 2.

Seconds into level 2 you see more bad tile placement, cutoff, and tile inconsistency. Just like level 1, it's extremely boring and can be beaten in seconds. It's not as flat as level 1, but still pretty darn boring and lackluster. And near the end of the level, there is a block with a right arrow on it. People can easily mistaken this as a solid block. At the very least use a sign, I mean jeez.

And then, you finished level 2. Not that it's a achievement you should be proud of, these levels easily are beaten in seconds.

Then, when you enter the REAL level 1, the came comes to a close...no, literally, the game closes upon clicking OK on that message you probably saw upon entering the real level 1. Well, you might as well be welcome to throw the game folder into the Recycle Bin now.

I'm not exactly sure how hypersonic looked at this and said "Yeah I'm pretty sure everyone won't mind the cutoff everywhere and I'm pretty sure that everyone will think the level locations are innovative and also I'm sure that no one will mind levels that can be beaten in seconds". Because if you look at this...real hard...it looks like someone gave djrellik's engine to a 4 year old.

Bad.

Graphics
1 / 10
We have generic SMB3 SMAS graphics that aren't really spectacular at all anymore since now they're overused, and they weren't even changed from djrellik's engine.

But then, tile placement. I've talked about this many times before in the Gameplay section. The cutoff looks horrible and there is some serious inconsistent tile placement (Grass tiles mixed with wood tiles?? or grass slopes literally mixed with wood tiles?????).

The "Super Quest" subtitle is in horrible Comic Sans and the bottom part of the 3 is cut off on the title screen.

Map is completely unchanged.

The game is also stretched to fit 1920x1080 on my computer, which is very unpleasant to look at and isn't pretty at all.

Bad.

Sound
2 / 10
Music wise, it's just overused MIDIs that have been used a million times already and no one wants to hear it anymore.

Sound wise, it's a mix between 16-bit and 8-bit sounds, which for some reason was in the original engine by default.

Bad.

No. No. NO. NOOOOOOOOO.

You're not going to play this again, that's all I'll tell you. It's a soulless djrellik clone that is ungodly boring and short and there are no secrets.

Final Words

Don't give 4 year olds Game Maker, otherwise stuff like this will happen. Just don't. Please.
