General Commentary and Game Overview
It's one of those normal days, where Bowser isn't doing anything evil. However, it's not a normal day anymore, as some strangers has stolen the power stars. Looks like it's up to Mario to save the day again.

Hmm, I wonder what are those power stars for. Are they supposed to protect Peach's Castle or Toad Town?

Anyway, let's review, shall we?

Pros +You made the engine
+Star Coins
+Sounds and music are okay

Cons -Graphics clash
-Powerups are a little buggy
-Jumping sound is too quiet
-Bad control scheme

Gameplay
4 / 10
For one thing about the gameplay, you've made your own engine, rather than using an open-source engine like Hello Engine, so that earns you some points! Though, the engine could use a lot of improvements. For example, Mario will always jump at the same height, no matter how long you hold the jump button. Speaking of the jumping, the control scheme is just bad. Really, up as the jump button, space bar as using the powerup, and shift as pausing? Why did you make shift pause instead of enter? Having up for jumping is something I'm not a fan of, and rather have shift for jumping. Using the space bar for using your powerup is fine, but I'd rather have it be the ctrl button.

Besides the controls, the powerups are a little buggy. They are a Fire Flower and a Ice Flower, both of them make you throw a fireball and a iceball respectively. Both of the balls can sometimes get stuck. Besides the bug, the powerups seem to work good, expect for the fact that the iceballs freezes Koopa Troopas but they destroy Spinies (and Goombas, I believe) is a little odd to me.

Anyway, I'll talk about the coins. It should be obvious what they do if you have played some Mario games before, they are collected on contact, and collecting a certain amount of them will give you an extra health point (rather than an extra life, as there are no lives in this game). Though, using a bar to represent your amount of coins rather than using numbers seems a little weird to me.

Alright, now I'll take a look at the level design. Somehow, the level design feels a little bland. A lot of parts have a large pit, which can be crossed by jumping on Koopa Paratroopas, which is a little repetitive problem in the level design.

Each level ends with a NPC that will give you a star. Though, the second level just ends with a star, which I don't know if it's because of laziness or not.

Graphics
2 / 10
One of the worst part's of the game, is the graphics. Oh my gosh, almost every spot of the game has clashing graphics. Really, we have Mit's tileset, SMW Mario, SMB3-style SMW Koopa Troopas, and Lovetendo's Goombas, all of which don't seem to go well together to me. Some of them are overused (which are the SMB3 and SMW ones), which I believe there are a lot of good replacements out there. Before we move on to the sound, I want to point out that some of the tiles (which are inside the ground) have a little cut (meaning that you can see the background in the cut), which seems a little weird to me.

Sound
7 / 10
The music are MIDIs, I believe, which sounds good, for a MIDI selection.

The sounds are okay, but I can see (or hear?) a couple problems here. First of the two, I felt like the jumping sound was waaaaaaay too quiet. The other problem was the fact that Mario says "Wheeeee!" when he bounces off a bouncy mushroom. This can get a little annoying sometimes.

Replay
2 / 10
The only replay value I can see here, are the star coins. Each level has three star coins, some of which can be easy to find, and some of them can be hard to find. Though, the game doesn't seem to keep track of the Star Coins, and nothing seems to happen when you collect all three Star Coins in a level, so I'm not really sure if it's worth collecting all of the Star Coins.

Final Words
4 / 10
This star would have been shinier if weren't for the controls and bugs.
