General Commentary and Game Overview
Yoshi's quest is a cute fangame with a cute story. The general gist of the plot is that Baby Bowser stole like, four of Yoshi's cookies and now he's taking it out on the Koopa Troop to get his cookies back.

The gameplay is simple, the graphics are great, and the sound effects are original (you don't see that every day!), but I'll get into all that in their dedicated sections.

Nothing in the game is complex, but it all comes together and just kind of works as a short, loveable fangame. The only odd thing is that there aren't really any bosses. Baby Bowser is the one who stole all these cookies, but he himself never actually appears in the game.

Pros - Loveable art style
- Simple, but fun, gameplay
- Intuitive game design
- Original sound effects
- Great music
- Yoshi Yoshi!!

Cons - Simple level design
- Sub-standard collision detection
- Only three enemies

Gameplay
6 / 10
The gameplay is quite simple. Basically, you move with the left and right arrow keys, and jump with the up arrow keys. The physics are static, and the gravity is high, which makes it a little tricky to get used to. Pressing shift will stick Yoshi's tongue out (assuming he is on the ground, as he cannot stick out his tongue in the air), and if it collides with an enemy, you get an egg. Pressing control will shoot the egg at a slight curve, but it flies pretty straight. You can hold up to six eggs at any time, and upon reaching that maximum, a little beep will play to help alert you of that.

To beat the level, which there are four of, you must progress right to the end of the level, and collect a cookie. There are no lives in this game, however you will have to restart the level if you run out of hearts. At the start of each level, you have three hearts, and you can collect more of them as items in the level. Colliding with an enemy will make you lose one of your hearts, and you'll be invincible for a short time.

The level design is not complicated, but the pyramid level is hindered by the collision detection, and the snow level (at least the platforming part) is hindered by the physics.

There are pipes that have enemies coming out of them, but they don't really slide out, they just sort of... spawn. This makes traversing around pipes a little tough, but if you play it safe, it won't be a problem.

A big complaint I have, though, is that the story's explanation is skipped by pressing any key, so i couldn't read it in fullscreen.

The game has three enemies:
- The Goomba, which moves leftward as in most Mario games
- The Parakoopa, which flies up and downward
- The Piranha Plant, which is a static object, effectively making them Munchers

All except the Piranha Plant can be converted into an egg, and eggs will defeat all of them in one shot.

Graphics
7 / 10
I love them. They are cute, charming, and unique all at the same time. They are 8-bit, but some of the sprites only use two colors when a third for careful shading would make them look much better. They fit the game really well, and are actually what got me to download this game in the first place.

There's not a whole lot more to say, really, aside from going very in-depth into all the details of the style, which would not be appropriate for this review. Some of the tilesets look better than others, and the pipe is really quite bad, but overall the graphics are great.

Sound
9 / 10
It's all 8-bit, to go along with the graphics. The game has custom sound effects all made with an 8-bit synthesizer, and the music is drawn from various 8-bit recreations of various songs by various artists. All the sounds fit, and it comes together really well!

Replay
4 / 10
I doubt I'll play it again. The game is very short, has no collectibles, and isn't extremely engaging gameplay. On top of that, the level design isn't exactly masterful, so that doesn't entice me. The ending made me laugh, though!

Final Words
7 / 10
The best words I can use to describe this game are, "Short and Sweet". I wanted to give this game a 6.5, so I rounded up to 7.
