General Commentary and Game Overview
Super Mario Bros: Odyssey is an amazing retelling of the original Super Mario Bros on the NES, with original level design, a great soundtrack, and near-perfect physics, this fan game is one of the best I have played in a long time!

Pros +Kind-of-accurate physics
+Tons of replay value
+Pretty visuals
+Original level design

Cons -Slippery movement
-Not being able to go back to the levels I liked without beating the game first

Gameplay
8 / 10
SMB:O runs on the Super Mario Fusion: Revival engine, an engine used in Super Mario Fusion: Revival and Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. You can finally move around freely while in mid-air, which can be really useful for saving yourself. Mario has his wall-jump from Super Mario 64, which works just as well in 2D as it does in 3D. It's saved me from death many times. Meanwhile, Luigi lacks the wall-jump and instead has the same abilities as he did in Lost Levels: Higher jumps and poor traction. However, I have to question Mario and Luigi's movement. It feels very slippery and has caused most of my deaths. Overall, very solid but could use some work.

Graphics
9 / 10
The graphics in this game are beautiful. Most of the graphics are custom, and they look stunning. The lava in the castle levels, the crystals in the underground levels, the trees in the snow levels... It's all very good indeed. I also like Mario and Luigi's sprites. They're edits from Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3, but there are also some custom sprites too. While I didn't like Mario's red overalls at first, you get used to it after a while.

Sound
7 / 10
The songs used in this game are mostly remixes of popular Super Mario songs. The overworld theme is entirely orchestrated, and the underground theme is from Super Mario 3D Land, just to name a few.

Replay
9 / 10
After you've finished the original adventure, the game isn't over yet. There's still two episodes that you can unlock by beating the game. I haven't unlocked either of the episodes yet because I haven't beaten the game, but by looking at the files I found that one of the episodes uses 8-bit sprites. Having more small games inside one big game adds replay value and gives you an excuse to go back to the game, and I applaud the creator for taking time to make them.

Final Words
9 / 10
Super Mario Bros: Oddysey is a great game. I only had to play World 1-1 to know what I was in for. This is one of the best games on this site, and you definitely need to play it. Although the physics are a bit whack, you'll still probably have a good time with it.
