General Commentary and Game Overview
Super Mario Shootout is a game where you shoot at enemies from your point of view. Shooting anything but Bob-ombs gets you points, and shooting Bob-ombs ends your game.

Not very exciting, is it?

Pros + Music's nice, I guess

Cons - Ugly resized graphics
- Gameplay is shallow and dependent on luck, as enemies spawn in random locations

Impressions
Gameplay
2 / 10
Gameplay is unfortunately very shallow. There's no power-ups or upgrades, nothing to protect, no challenge whatsoever except the "challenge" of avoiding Bob-ombs.

It isn't really explained why you aren't supposed to shoot Bob-ombs, as they are too far away from the player to do anything.

Enemy spawning seems to be entirely random. This is bad game design, especially when accidentally shooting a Bob-omb results in you losing. The game depend largely on luck, not on skill.

There are games on MFGG with this kind of gameplay that are far superior--Nintendo Zapper: Reloaded in particular comes to mind. To those reading this review, I encourage you to leave this game alone and play NZ:R instead.

I really should give this a 1/10 for the obvious lack of effort, but I have played worse.

Graphics
1 / 10
The horribly resized Koopa in the preview images is a pretty good indicator of graphical quality in this game. Just about everything except the level background is horribly resized, which makes the game look just plain ugly. The "SUPER MARIO" in the title looks like it was crudely cut out from another image (it is also poorly resized).

The enemies are from SMW while most of the background tiles come from SMB3, resulting in a style mismatch. This is something you should try to avoid in your game design
(unless you're making a game like Mushroom Kingdom Fusion where that kind of thing is inevitable).

Sorry, but I fail to see anything redeeming in this category.

Sound
6 / 10
The music was pretty great. Except for not looping properly, I can't really complain about it. Sounds are there, but there are about two of them. The end result is that the sound for this game is overall okay, but nothing special.

Replay
2 / 10
The game provides highscores, but because it is a luck-based game (and a bad one at that) you probably won't be too motivated to play it again.

Final Words
3 / 10
Unless you are bored out of your mind and are inexplicably unable to play almost anything else, stay away from this game.
