SMB1-Styled Kuribon/Galoomba By: Nuggeting [W]
I decided to make my first submission a very basic one: A sprite sheet of Kuribon from Super Mario World in the style of SMB1. The sheet has Kuribon on its own, with wings, with a parachute, and variations with the colours of Galoomba from Super Mario 3D World.

Use these if you want, no permission needed. Just be sure to give credit.

If you're going to use this in a ROM hack, I strongly suggest only using the normal and winged Kuribon sprites, as the parachute sprites and Galoomba palette break the NES's 4-colour-rule.

Asides from the fact that they break the 4-color rule (transparency counts as a color), they look quite nice.

Probably he did Megamaning. HOWEVER, Koopas in SMB3 break the 4-color rule because SMB3 uses the MMC3 chip, according to Somari64.
Does Super Mario Bros. use the MMC chip? (aside from 2 and 3)

I honestly had no idea a 4-colour rule was a thing, thanks guys.

I would've changed it by now if I knew how to update submissions.

How to update submissions:
1. Go to My Submissions.
2. Click on the name of the submission.
3. Change the file and thumbnails and the description too. (The interface is slightly similar to that of when you are submitting a new submission, so change whatever needs to be changed!)
4. Click on Update Submission.
5. Wait until the update gets accepted by the admins (like VinnyVideo!), and you'll have your update in no time.

I hope this helped ya out.

The update's been set in place. Kuribon should follow the 4-colour-rule now.

And before anyone says it I intentionally left Galoomba as a 4-colour-rule-breaker because he's meant to be a "modern" design of sorts.

That's like the same comment you gave me! No offense...

He probably has a copypasta on standby for whenever the question's asked.

Writing a completely new guide everytime would get stale after the fourth time.

the MMC3 chip had nothing to do with colors per sprite. here's how it works- internally, sprites are split up into 8x8 tiles. each individual 8x8 tiles can use up to 3 "visible" colors, plus the transparent color. so mario from SMB1, internally, would look something like this, as an example. what this means is that you could make mario look like this and still have it function properly on the NES. the SMB3 koopas "cheat" this by being positioned 2 pixels up.

the MMC3 chip in terms of graphics only really made animated tiles possible, which SMB3 used fairly frequently. it also allowed for things like diagonal scrolling for autoscrolling levels, and it also allowed the stationary HUD on the bottom of the screen to function properly.

at any rate, though, the sprites themselves are fine. if it were me i would've made them face sideways like the koopa troopa, but this works either way.

I bet you caught it the right way out, Mit. Thanks for your info!
