General Commentary and Game Overview
An overview of a decade of work by single fan who has made about as many Mario platforming games in the last 10 years as Nintendo.

Pros Tight controls. Decent level design. Great music. A large amount of variety in level styles, enemies, power ups, items, and themes. Interesting to see a creator comment on his own work.

Cons The voiced sound effects from Mario get old, fast. Some of the commentary seems self-aggrandizing. Since this is a collection of levels from various games, the difficulty curve isn't so much a curve as a scatter graph. The lack of a real goal makes progress less rewarding.

Impressions
Gameplay
7 / 10
The controls are tight. The level design is decent and varied. There are often multiple paths throughout a level. There is a lot to do - but not always an easy way to know that. The lack of a goal, and the oddly placed collectables take away from the drive to finish, or sometimes to even keep playing.

Graphics
9 / 10
I love this style of Mario. 16-bit SMB3 (SMAS) is the definition of what a Super Mario Game is. Pulling in characters and items from other games and making them in a style that fits this world is a feat. The only complaint is the over-used color saturation effect to make the levels look different doesn't always work very well.

Sound
8 / 10
The music and sound effects are top-notch. The only downside is the constant "WooHoo" and "Just what I needed!" comments from Mario are very grating after a while of playing. If I could turn that off, this section would get a 10/10.

Replay
6 / 10
There are some levels that are quite fun to play multiple times. There are others that I won't ever go back to. This is this a collection of levels from various games, the level quality is all over the map, and the lack of a centralized goal makes replaying the entire game unlikely.

Final Words
8 / 10
As a "Greatest Hits" style game from multiple games, the quality of the levels range from boring or annoying to very fun. If you are a fan of the SMB3 art style, you will love the look of this game. Most people won't be interested in reading all the commentary unlocked by the collectables. The lack of an objective hurts the push to keep playing. But the wide variety of levels, enemies, items, and themes makes this game a very easy recommendation for anyone into 2D Mario games at all. And you can't beat the price. :D
