General Commentary and Game Overview
Keep in mind this isn't really just "Remix" or remake. This game is completely new with 25 stages divided into 5 small hub worlds, takes 5 hours to play through. The save block tends to disappear from the hubs, but you can find it in world 1 then.

The first two worlds are relatively easy, but in world 4 the game plays much more interesting, and each stage 5 features one boss enemy.

Pros + Graphics look better than Nintendo's
+ Extremely polished
+ Custom powerups, for example Wind flower!
+ Couple of shoot'em up stages

Cons - Relatively easy and flat/conforming levels
- World 3-2 crashed the game, in Windows 7

Impressions
Gameplay
9 / 10
It plays like New Super Mario Bros, scrolling sideways on relatively flat levels. Mario has hearts that count how many times he's hurt, and can pick mushrooms to regain hearts. There's no continue on game over, so collecting coins for extra lives is important. Mushroom's for hearts and coins for lives? That lacks logic, but is still straight-forward to get.

There's some powerups for Mario, one nice Fire flower, and an awesome Wind flower that enables double jumping and one forgiving glide through the air, it feels very smooth. Then there's an ice powerup, and it can even freeze the water surface, to jump on it, in world 3-1 (Iced plains)
That would be cool to play more with.

The controls are almost perfect, better than the prequel. But there's one small inconsistency, throwing things in the 5 controllable directions doesn't work with shells nor ice blocks, as they always go straight to the side.

Graphics

11/10

The game begins with an intro-cut scene of Yoshi's Island style. Then every detail in the game is so high quality it could be commercial.

Here are some examples:
+ Gorgeous green vegetation on Piranha meadow (1-4)
+ Perfectly crisp resolution in Flooded fort (1-5)
+ Nice beach tiles on New koopa beach (2-1)
+ Translucent lava in Volcanic hill (2-2)
+ Retro style pipes in Badlands maze (4-1)
+ Sunset setting and flying islands in High ruins (4-3)

All animation of enemies are good too, moles that jump out of the dirt then run like Sonic, Bullet Bill cannons that rise out of pipes, plants that custom chew chew etc.

Sound
10 / 10
Classic Mario melodies, and lots of sound effects programmed to perfection.

Replay
5 / 10
There's no point in fighting extra enemies, as player gets no points for that. The enemies simply die away, making it easier for Mario to proceed. Like New Super Mario Bros, the flat levels made me a bit bored so i would replay the original Mario vs the Koopas instead ;)

Final Words
8 / 10
The game itself is polished to perfection, but fans of the series may need to reach world 4 where the level design becomes much more fun.
