General Commentary and Game Overview
Normal Super Mario Bros. 2 is the most normal fangame you'll ever play... or not.

Pros + Almost everything is executed perfectly
+ Incredible graphical effects
+ Succeeds in being very goofy without sacrificing gameplay
+ Brilliant use of music

Cons - Final boss may take a few tries
- Collisions aren't quite perfect in the cave section
- Enormous filesize - but it's worth it

Impressions
Gameplay
10 / 10
When you first turn on the game, you'll swear you're playing Super Mario Bros. 2 with Toad - until you pick up that Fuzzy, when you'll find that your world has been transformed into Woodstock all over again! Along the way you'll find vegetables in the form of DK Coins, cameo appearances as random as Tingle and Rattly, plus countless other oddities that I won't spoil.

The greatest thing about this game - and all of the Normal Super Mario Bros. games - is it doesn't neglect the fact that you have to make the game fun even when many of the things going on are, well, simply absurd. The cave section with the Sparks is also worth lauding for successfully implementing some truly virtuoso programming tricks.

There is one glitch I found, however: It's possible to walk off the right edge of the screen after beating the final boss. You'd have to go out of your way for this to happen, however. I also wish your period of invincibility was longer after getting hit by one of the final boss's projectiles.

Graphics
10 / 10
There's no doubt about it: The graphical effects in this game are simply astounding and are more impressive than some modern-day games produced by teams of professionals. Obviously, some of the graphics clash, but this is obviously intended and is thus not undesirable.

Sound
10 / 10
Music and sound are also implemented amazingly well. There's some pretty funky music going on, but everything fits perfectly with each environment. I especially liked the "I Am the Earth" music.

Sound effects are also used perfectly; the sounds match every game event, and some are pretty funny.

Replay
7 / 10
Normal Super Mario Bros. isn't an extremely long game, although we can all agree it's a little more interesting than your average remix of a Super Mario 2 level. The two Magic Potions, which lead to two particularly well-executed video game parodies/tributes, add some replay value if you missed them in the first playthrough. And in contrast to your average fangame, this game is likely to captivate any non-video game-savvy baby boomer or weed-smoking hippie.

Final Words
10 / 10
Normal Super Mario Bros. 2 is a textbook for fangame makers - once you get past the hippies, of course.
