SML4 Mario Demo

A demo of one of Tech Wing's many game ideas, this is how Mario(and Luigi) will likely play. The full game will feature up to four player offline co-op, for now however, enjoy this (admitedly somewhat rushed) three level one boss demo based around Mario's abilities.

Basic Controls:
Shift = Fire 1
Ctrl = Fire 2
Arrow Keys = Up Down Left and Right Directional Buttons

Controls are explained in a built in help screen. Use the file

ack! what really annoys me is the wall jump, so hard to get used to.

Don't blame him for the game, blame me. I created it, I did the engine, the coding, picked the graphics, he simply did the dialouge and basic level ideas...

The script is well written, the graphics are pretty good, and the gameplay was mostly fun, except the parts involving the wall jump. It was very hard to do, and Mario didn't seem to want to slow down after doing it, which led to me slipping off the platforms I was trying to jump to a few times. Still, I'll be looking forward to the full version.

at all, SML4, the name, has been used for a pirate game on the GB, but I kinda like this.
ALSO: add something so when you presss escape you leave the game.

Calm down! The entire conception was mine, I concocted the engine ideas, almost the full level design, boss design, gathered resources and music, AND wrote the dialogue. We share the cake equally.

Nope. The walljump in Luigi's Game by me is the hardest. It's so hard that a lot of people don't even know it exists!

Not really. With some pratice and a good gamepad, you should be able to master it.

Yeah, I didn't find the wall jump too hard either. It worked well in the spots where it's necessary, but if you need to save your hide from a pit you're about to fall into it seems to fail. Or maybe it's just me.

I think that's entirely it; the setup for the walljump was built around a gamepad. It uses the same basic idea that was used in Super Metroid for walljumping, in terms of pressing off one direction, on to another, rinse, repeat, etc. It's much different design than the walljump in any other Mario game or a fangame, much like many of the other elements our games feature, but I can't understand how it would frustrate somebody to the point of putting the game down. The only issue I personally had was like CloakBass said, the bottomless pits in the lava area and walljumping there; I don't remember any bottomless pits in Super Metroid, so the gameplay for that level was sort of uneven.

.....im still trying to jump the first wall over the goombas xD (I agree,with a gamepad it could be easier to do the wall jump).
Nice game I like it, the only thing is the wall jump xD
