General Commentary and Game Overview
Super Mario Bros. USA is certainly not the best Mario game, but it does have its moments. More particularly, the very first level. It has good memories, and bad ones, but hey, was it really that bad?

Gamester sets out to say "NO IT WAS NOT AND I SHALL PROVE IT SO" by creating the perfect clone of the first level of Super Mario Bros. USA, playing as an under-appreciated character, Toad.

It's a great clone of 1-1.

Pros + A beautiful clone of the Super Mario Bros. USA engine.

Cons - Nothing really, it's a perfect clone.

Gameplay
10 / 10
You start out facing your "this is what level you're on and how many lives you have" screen. Note the number of lives you have. Exactly as much as the beginning of SMBUSA!

Gamester gets right to the good bits and skips the boring fall from the sky (did you ever like that part anyway?) right to where the action really starts. After you pull up a few vegetables, nostalgia should be washing over you in an instant. Everything works as it should. Well, that's a lie; enemies aren't killed by tossing vegetables, but each other, but tossing enemies is more fun anyway.

What the real kicker is is the potion area. You remember the potions, opening up a portal to an alternate dimension exactly like the level but backwards? Well, that is also what happens here my friend. Not a single stone is left unturned.

I found myself having fun, as I did in the old days of the Super NES and Super Mario All-Stars. Here was a perfect renedition of World 1-1! The potion portal, and the inside the cave, and oh man, the spaceship section? God, the memories kept flooding back and back and back!

From beginning to end, Normal Super Mario Bros. 2 delivers the exact experience Super Mario Bros. USA had to offer.

Graphics
10 / 10
And don't get me going on the graphics! If he spent that much time working on the engine, what about the graphics?

Ah... EXCELLENT?

All the vegetables are in full force. I had hoped he wouldn't forget the DK Coin and he did not indeed. Then I worried about the potion portal. Nope, perfect again. Then I worried about the boss at the end. I mean, it's not a well-liked game, and not everything was ripped from it! But Gamester somehow found the sprites for the boss at the end of the level anyway. Magnificent.

Sound
10 / 10
I'll admit, I was kind of expecting MIDI's, because they provide more remixes. But Gamester didn't care. He wanted authenticity! He wanted the REAL DEAL! And so he found the exact sound files used in the game and used them. LIKE HE WANTED TO. AND THAT IS GOOD.

Replay
10 / 10
This made me so nostalgic I pretty much forgot everything that happened. As I played, the memories came flooding back. But now that I'm writing this paragraph, I'm starting to forget Super Mario Bros. USA. Heck, I can barely remember what button did what. I think I'm going to have to play it again. Just to remember it again.

Final Words
10 / 10
Gamester has made yet another perfect clone of a classic Mario game. How does he do it?
