General Commentary and Game Overview
I beat the first level then died on the second one and got a Game Over and I quit and I came here to write this. Because this is unacceptable. This is not a game. Games have rules. This... does not.

Pros + The graphics seem to fit, from what little of the game I saw.

Cons - The game's boundaries are ill-defined and broken constantly.
- The music glitches up - apparently the continue music can and will play over the first level's music.
- Come on, who honestly uses Hello's Super Mario Bros. 1 engine anymore? At least use HE5 if you're gonna use an engine.

Gameplay
1 / 10
I've played bad Hello engine games where the level design was uninspired. I've played bad Hello games where the engine simply wasn't built around the game's ideas.

This is a bad Hello engine game where nothing can be counted on whatsoever.

Hit that block? Maybe it'll work! Maybe you'll bounce off. Maybe you'll fly right through it! Jump on that spring? Maybe you'll get stuck! Maybe you won't. Collision detection, enemy behavior, block behavior... maybe this, maybe that - if I am asking myself, "okay, HOPEFULLY this will work like it did last time" for something like HITTING A BLOCK, the same block I hit thrice before, then something has been done wrong. Players should be able to feel safe in an established world with established rules. As this game is governed almost entirely by chance, it is not a game, it is simply a gamble. "Can you make it to the end?" It's not really, truly, dependent on skill when you can't even count on solid blocks.

And let it be known I am a patient man - I finished Sonic bloody '06 and enjoy the Super Mario Bros. movie. But I could not be bothered to play past getting a Game Over, in the second level - oh yeah, I could've gotten a bunch of extra lives and continued, but I didn't want to. I wanted to avoid extra lives so that the next death would lead to me being closer to freedom.

I feel that if everyone was given enough time and resources and if they honestly cared to do so, they could create something great. I dunno how much of this is the engine's fault and how much of it is the creator's for modifying it - but I don't honestly feel like this guy put a lot of effort into this. I mean, if he had, surely he would have created his own engine or realized how broken this one was. Maybe the levels beyond the second are absolutely mind-blowingly crazy, I mean, there's eight whole worlds. There's a chance.

I just didn't want to take that chance. I didn't want to take any chances in this game, which is kind of bad because this game is ENTIRELY CHANCES.

One more thing - as soon as you open the game, you're kicked into the first level no questions asked, no title screen, no grace period. Two seconds away from a Goomba.

That is not good level design.

Graphics
5 / 10
From what I've seen, the graphics are alright. They all fit together nicely even though they're slightly overused. So not terrible in that regard but completely average.

Sound
4 / 10
Hooray, it's the Super Mario Bros. theme. Just like in the 8-bit days. Snore.

Also the music glitches, as after selecting "continue" on the Game Over screen the continue music continued playing over the main level theme. How do you miss something like that?

Replay

I did mention the part where I purposely avoided getting extra lives so I could get this over with faster, right?

Right. No replay to be had here.

Final Words
1 / 10
I only had to play this game for twenty seconds before I found ten flaws. That should be pretty indicative of its quality.
